Hi gang

I've been offered the use (read payable hire :? ) of a 2001 Relay SWB to move some furniture to my lockup.

Before I take up the guy and pay him does anyone know the internal load space length, and less importantly width of the loading bay? The owner, some oldtimer who has no Fucking clue apart from 'If it don't fit, we'll lash it up Son!'

Basically, I want to know if it has secure lash down points and will it fit a double mattress in flat?

Thanks Gooner and Si error peeps.

You can definitely get a sheet of 8'x 4' flat on the floor between the wheel arches.

Oh Shit, that looks so bad. Especially after the Go dogging/Hooker post in the other thread.

I can assure you, dear readers - I have no desire to place a mattress in the back of a Citroen Relay, or to strap anyone down to it. I just want to shift furniture, quickly.

Thanks for the reply spartacus.

If it's been ply lined badly then the tie down points may have been boarded over, I'm sure they have them fitted though.

It should have lashing points welded to the arches and step up to cabin at that age . Newer ones had them on the floor . As mentioned previously the space between arches is just over 4ft and its 8 ft long inside

I used to have one of these at work and although it was fitted with bread racks, it was quite roomy.  I could almost stand up in the back, and this was the low-top version.  Unless you're moving really big stuff, it should be fine.  By really big, I mean huge fitted wardrobes that can't be broken down, or a massive corner sofa, for example.

When I bought my first house, I moved all my stuff, what furniture I had and what I managed to pinch off my parents In a Citroen Synergie which is much the same thing but with windows and tweed.

Incidentally, the second move was in a Luton bodied LT and if I ever sell this place I will need a 747 Cargo!

No, Synergie, Ulysee and 806 are the car versions of the Relay, Scudo and Expert respectively.

Scudo ,expert and dispatch are all the same van .

The relay , boxer and ducato are proper full size vans .

These are 1800 wide inside by 2400. A very low loading height too. Mine was spectacularly gutless :)

Hmm, 2001 would have been the tail end of 1.9D production,  before the 2.0HDI took over.  So you might well be able to fit all your stuff in the van, but there's no guarantee the things will actually move once fully laden.
