Appleton Roebuck garage - back to the 1960s!

Stopped for fuel at this time-warp recently. Its not cheap at £1.18 a litre for unleaded, but it certainly makes for an interesting living museum! The pumps are owned by an elderly lady who lives in the cottage next door - you have to bang on her front door, and she comes out to do the pumping for you! Hope you like the pictures. Anybody know of any similarly antiquated petrol stations still in operation?

Rix Petroleum, part a large family run Hull firm. Useless fact time;...it's the family of the 'whitehall farcer' and actor Sir Brian Rix...

As a child, I used to regularly go to the Shoulder of Mutton pub for Sunday lunch with the family, seen to the right of the petrol station, back in the late 80's - mid-90's. Highlights for me were to see the latest crash victim that the SIII Land Rover had winched in on its Harvey Frost. Even then, I knew that this was something from the past and always wished that someone was out there sitting in the little shelter, waiting to serve petrol. Never noticed the pumps were that old, though!

There's a place in a place close to that place near butlins.

No idea what the name of the village is that it is in, but the pumps swang out from the side of an older worlde convenience store - so you just park up at the kerb to fuel up.

You live and learn!  I wonder whether they make donations to MENCAP...?
