Part two of today's activity to follow soon, let's see what this piece of 90's junk chucks out on a dyno.

Is this the one from RR?

Yep......

It's a collection thread, do they have to start with purchases?

Yep....... Sorry

It is a collection thread, it's just been tucked up in a barn over winter cos it's a Vauxhall and they don't like getting wet. Actually they do like getting wet but I don't much like welding them up again an again like it's Groundhog Day.

It's got an interesting history

When I was replacing the timing chains I found this

And this

Seems the Lotus employees wanted to recognise some significance

Dates are a bit of an issue with this car - It was first registered 11/01/91

Damn, that's a special one. Seriously, don't sell it. What an absolute beast. 8-)

Technically It's the last one built too

First owners was the prudential Insurance company In Jan 91 (now they didn't hand out Lotus Carltons as company cars did they - shareholders would have got right pissy at £50K cars!!!)

Second owners from 09/11/1992 was Lotus Cars Ltd, Norfolk (I think that helps resolve the dates issue)

Third Owner is me from 2001

Log book says Vauxhall Carlton GSI 24V - Colour Green - Engine capacity 3615 cc

Lotus built 950 of them in LHD and RHD and gave each one a unique build number from 0001 to 0950

This one is 0000

On the other subject - It will get sold - it's a pain evey year to sort out storage and I'm running out of places that will take it and I've owned it too long!!!

So in summary whilst it was built by Lotus it wasn't one of the original 950 cars - it was a second hand prudential managers car in white that got stripped to a bare shell and rebuilt into a Lotus Carlton cos they never kept one for themselves.

So a replica of sorts......

Does that add value, due to being 0000? Or does it devalue it because it isn't 1-950.

One of my all time i would love to have a drive. More pics please.

Must make it almost worthless - I'll do you a favour and give you £500 for it M8

Seriously, that's a great bit of history and a lovely car.  Plus it's a Vauxhall Carlton, so the shiter's supersaloon.  Probably well out of my price range, but WOULD.

Brilliant car, I'm very jealous, I've loved these since they were new and I was a small child. No super saloon since has looked so good. Interesting story behind its existence as well.

Not really sure, prices of these cars is all over the place, good ones are rarely sold, average ones often have hidden issues and if you buy a cheap one then it's likely to take your shirt - all of them and probably a lot more besides.

Good ones start in the low 30's

If you fancy being brave entry level cars are 5 - 10

I wouldn't advise that.....

This one is hard to price because of the history - if you ever remember Tiff Needell testing one on top gesr the number plate should ring a bell.
