Cheap people carrier?

Recommended Posts

I've been contemplating a cheap people carrier and eBay has turned up this high spec diesel galaxy on my doorstep. MOT'd until Dec and past mot history looks good. Any ideas what the electrical drain could be? Surely it can't be anything too major? Of course there might be other 'issues' not disclosed in the brief advert and limited photos.

I paid ten times that for mine about 4 years ago.

Brilliant things really.

Very strong vehicles, fast on a motorway even with 110hp becuase TGVfront. Economical for size, too. I'm after one. But with pre-PD injection system, to allow veg. Watch for subframe rot on the older Ford versions, apparently, but Galaxies are cheaper than Sharans, prolly cos most Ford owners don't expect a blue oval badged car to be still going strong after 16 years and more. Or they don't like VW engines.

Awwdy posh!51 plate ahould be a veg friendly lump too

I don't think so, facelift = unit injection.

I'd prefer a Synergie/806/Ulysse to one of these.

Some VAG cars changed to unit injection earlier than others, I think some 1999 Passats and A4s use PD engines, and these people carriers changed over with the facelifts.

I had a 2000 Passat that was an early PD so VAG the were using both engines simultaneously for a bit.

Octavias with 110hp to 2005, I think some Seats too. But these machines changed over with the facelift, as LP says. We veggers know.

Any ideas on what the electrical problem might be? It must be something they can't sort easily to have to sell with 8 months mot still on it...

I'd be more worried what it drove over to get the sills that banana shaped.... Walk away....

Sure you're not looking at the aerodynamic sculpture on the lower doors?

Enlarge button found. Looks like jack in the wrong place, yes.

It might not be the only issue - just the one they mention. Could be simple like glovebox light on, radio fault. Or more tricky like chafed wiring somwehere.

That sill damage could be due to a misunderstanding about location of jacking points......how do I know :)

It's an optimum illegal minicab favourite - if that was an easy fix, it would be pounding the streets now with a magmount wrapped in an old t shirt.

What would the junkman say?

ITS FUCKED.

Bro in law had a 53 plate ghia tdi auto. Five speed with manual mode. Trip computer never dropped below 40mpg and I liked the electric pop out rear Windows too. I wouldn't mind an auto one.

My Bro had an auto Tdi Sharan.

It did nearly 300k before failing in a spectacular fashion at the entrance to a roundabout on a busy trunk road on a Friday afternoon locking both front wheels solid.

The 5-0 turned up and were very excited about the chaos caused and said they would push it out of the way.

So he let them try :-)

The AA took hours to get to him because of the tailback he had caused and the whole thing made the first item on Sally traffics bulletin. (Steve Shite in the afternoon).

But I digress......

Seems odd, normally they seem to want to close the road and all alternative routes for several days.

I think I'm going to give this one a miss. It could be the buy of the century but after further consideration I think it's more likely to be completely fooked.
