Jim Bell Posted March 20, 2016 Posted March 20, 2016 Is anyone using Torque on android to run live data from obd2? If so,can someone recommend a decent cheap sender? Never used it and interested to give it a go.
Eddie Honda Posted March 20, 2016 Posted March 20, 2016 No, but if you find a decent cheap sender, let me know too. Last pile of junk I had doesn't comm with ISO9141 or whatever and is a pile of pap. Seems to be a total lottery.
dome Posted March 20, 2016 Posted March 20, 2016 Seems to be a total lottery.Aye, sounds about right. Mine is so so and it was a generic cheapy.
Jim Bell Posted March 20, 2016 Author Posted March 20, 2016 I'll have a shat in the dark then, see how we go.
michael1703 Posted March 20, 2016 Posted March 20, 2016 I've got one of those elm 327 ones and it works on most cars saucedoctor 1
SiC Posted March 20, 2016 Posted March 20, 2016 Don't get a bluetooth ELM327 v2.1 - they aren't actually ELM327 any more. The Chinese, to make the build cost cheaper, changed away from the chip that does the full ELM327, to a crap copy that pretends its a ELM327. However it doesn't support all the commands or features of a proper ELM327. Unfortunately it's darn hard to find a bluetooth v1.4/v1.5 nowadays. Even the ones labeled as such aren't really, but actually are v2.1 miss-sold. All rather annoying, as only the v1.4/v1.5 are actually good enough to work with my app - making an annoying support headache.
SiC Posted March 20, 2016 Posted March 20, 2016 http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00UR5BRZU I've not got around to getting that one yet, but that appears to be an original v1.5 - according to the reviews. The seller seems to know this, as they charge double what the original v1.5 cost and the crap v2.1. Still not that expensive though.
SiC Posted March 20, 2016 Posted March 20, 2016 BTW for general diagnostics, I find Piston to be a much more user friendly and better app than Torque. Jim Bell 1
Pillock Posted March 20, 2016 Posted March 20, 2016 I paid a tenner for one that was supposedly better. Came in a box and everything. It does work, however it was one of the only ones that can power down when left plugged in (so I can leave it in 24/7) but it doesn't wake back up properly, so a bit of a waste of cash.
michael1703 Posted March 20, 2016 Posted March 20, 2016 This is the guy I bought mine from http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/151783154490?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT Jim Bell 1
Pillock Posted March 20, 2016 Posted March 20, 2016 This was mine. It's utterly reliable, seems to be the "proper" v1.5, and works with Torque.http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Proscan-OBD2-ELM327-Bluetooth-google-Android-Car-Scanner-Torque-Auto-Scan-Tool-/301205091809?hash=item462138f5e1:g:uPgAAOxycSdR1UvN However, the feature of "can be left plugged in" neglects to mention "but won't work again until you take it out and plug it back in so you might as well just take it out when you leave the car". There is a standby button, I thought it would be really useful for doing Torque things rather than diagnostics, but the standby button just makes my dashboard flash up a shitload of errors with PAS, ESP etc and then the steering stops working properly
