Mid-Med chod

While Mrs CW drags me around the finer eateries to be found on Malta (it's a dirty job, but someone etc. etc.), I thought I'd try to pap some stuff - I recall there being some old and odd stuff here from my last visit. So, for starters, an early Transit...

And today brought something I'd almost forgotten existed... a mkIII 'tina estate. Pity it wasn't stopping - it looked to be well looked after....

Sorry for the kwality of pics - I've got out of the habit of having the camera ready for stuff on the move. I'll try to be more awake when out and about tomorrow!

Also, I'll try to pap some of the model/trim oddities that there seem to be here too - like the XR2 Vans I used to see when working in Ireland some twenty years ago - iirc, they were never sold in Blighty.

Another Transit, this time doing sterling work weighing in a bus wash...

Malta does seem to be a place to get rhd chod, I must go there sometime myself.

Now there's a collection plan! Flight to Malta, get the (currently running) chod, ferry to Italy, complete the enterprise with a short* drive, home in time for tiffin (other cake-based innuendos are available)

Hmm.

I read somewhere that the island is no longer quite the haven it was for old stuff due to a combination of government meddling (assume some kind of 'Green' directive?) and cheap imports? Is there any truth in this?

I haven't heard anything to confirm or deny this, but I can well believe it is a policy -  similarly, the much loved 'Malta buses'

...were binned in 2011 despite their appeal to tourists and old locals alike. The government awarded the contract to Arriva and they were very quickly phased out. Arriva of course turned out to be shit and the govt took control back in 2013.

I just remembered - I saw an old poster in a defunct dealership window - they had their very own scrappage scheme. And now, there's no end of modern VAG shit here being driven exactly the same way James the Salesman drives his in the UK. Sad....
