2004 Ford Fiesta. HELP REQUIRED

You need to get it on a four poster with someone driving it up through the gears while you listen through a big screwdriver on the hub carriers. Almost certainly a wheelbearing.

A two poster may be slightly safer.

I will run it through the gears on the stands again, but listen with a screwdriver on the hub carriers, as suggested.

That is a damn fine/very simple idea, and I am cursing myself to fuck for not thinking of it, myself.

At least the work done should futureproof it a bit!

And no, the bearings aren't expensive. Only a fiver and I already have one.

There's the small matter of the N/S being rusted into the hub, and the ball joint pinch torx bolts rounding when previously attempting hub removal this way, though.

The N/S hub, shaft and bottom arm all had to come off in a oner, to do the 'box.

Oh well, I have never claimed to be a mechanic, I just like to have a go lol.

Cheers, chaps. :-)

Try swapping the front wheels for the rears. As has already been suggested, a tyre delaminating can make odd noises. It may appear to be sound on the outside but completely shafted on the inside.

We had a '58 plate fiesta...

... best thing you can do is scrap it, they are one of the few cars with no redeeming features at all.

A fiver for the bearing? What kind of chinese shite must they be ?

OEM?

Could be as our 1.25 blew the head gasket at 20k due to the brilliant design of a flappy heater pipe near a sharp edge & a temp gauge that's ECU controlled so you don't get any warning till it flicks to 'boiled'.

I paid just under 70 quid for a blueprint water pump, QH timing belt kit, 5L of correct grade oil, oil/air/fuel filter and a couple of bearings.

They are from a trade only motorfactors, Thor.

Luckily, my uncle has an account, and gets me stuff.

My Mondeo only cost me £20 to service.
