VWPowered Posted March 11, 2009 Posted March 11, 2009 Just clocked this thread.I'd be so angry if someone did this to my car I'd want to hunt the culprits down and make whatever I did to them look like it was an accident. i got err a bit merry one evening and eagerly parked my Mk1 Golf on its side into a ditch, (great car, Llasa Green 5dr GX, GTI Engine, fast cam, weber carb), took me four hours to get home as there's no traffic in the arse of france at 1am, the next morning went straight to my local garage and he came with me to get the car (talking 9am i was there waiting for him), upon arriving I was mortified to see the windows stoved in, bits of tree/apples in the interior, all the panels kicked in, wipers bent over, i left the car with a tyre off the the rim no other damage, the car was a 83 'Y' UK reg RHD and they also scratched 'Feck You' into the roof (maybe didn't get to great an education if you cant spell the most popular word in the english language) the car was parked a the rear of a dutch village (small community of afew hundreds chalets, dutch bar/restaurant/shop etc, nearest french village in either direction about 4 to 8kms but all with only maybe 30 houses, was totally gutted, anyway got a call from a dutch friend afew weeks later who worked at the village to say someone had been bragging about smashing up 'this english twat crap golf', but to be totally honest i left it be, just drew a line under the matter and left it to be forgotten, being in a foreign country and kicking the crap out of someone probable that it wouldn't go down great...but i'm like an elephant.. i'll never forget...

Sorry about this obviously, but maybe it's a bit of concrete evidence for the whiners that vandalism happens in other countries as well.
Guest Posted March 11, 2009 Posted March 11, 2009 Great to see so much help to someone in need It would be nice to see that saved even if reshelled in the one hirst knows of-how rare are they now?.If it was mine and I caught the culprits I think I would be in prison-they would be in hospital.
Pete-M Posted March 12, 2009 Posted March 12, 2009 Great to see so much help to someone in need It would be nice to see that saved even if reshelled in the one hirst knows of-how rare are they now?I'll have to dig Mk1 GTi out of hibernation for the summer. It hasn't turned a wheel in about three years other than for the MOT. About an inch deep in dust...
reallyloud Posted March 12, 2009 Posted March 12, 2009 I'm fairly sure that surviving road going ones are in the low single figures, but they do come out of hiding every so often. I know how much that little car ment to her, particularly as it is her first car. It would make more sense to wait for a good car to come up for availability - but since when has common sense meant anything to any of us when it comes to old cars.....keep us updated guys!
TheScrapman Posted March 12, 2009 Author Posted March 12, 2009 Several of you speak of 'hunting them down'.Unfortunately, the police found no fingerprints on the car*, so it just goes down as another statistic.*And they did have a good go. There was fingerprint powder all over the car.

gtd2000 Posted March 12, 2009 Posted March 12, 2009 Loved to have seen the theives faces when it was back on the drive being used.It would have been much more satisfying to see their faces just before you "tickled" them with a baseball bat

andrew e Posted March 16, 2009 Posted March 16, 2009 Glad it wasn't just automatically cubed, feel sorry for the owner though, things really are not fair sometimes
Spottedlaurel Posted March 16, 2009 Posted March 16, 2009 Assessor should be coming to look at it tomorrow. Sadly I won't be around when he calls, but once Deb has heard something I'll report back. The front RH corner has taken quite a hit, such that the A-post is distorted and the door doesn't shut properly, nor does the bonnet line up or close.
MrRegieRitmo Posted March 16, 2009 Posted March 16, 2009 The body being out of line on the passenger side was the main death knell for my colleague's V40 as it would have been uneconomical to put right. This is a different scenario though & there will be rather a bit more determination to hang onto a cherished & not far off irreplaceable car like this!
