Back from the depths. An update without pictures, I'm afraid.

Ever since I've had the car, it's stunk of oil fumes when in traffic. Quick investigation found a britlle and broken dipstick tube and a taped up breather. Replaced dipstick tube with new part, and substituted the length of breather for some fuel pipe I had lying around. No more fumes. Also cleaned the MAF sensor and got rid of the chav cone filter, replacing it with a standard box and filter. No more lumpy idle, hesitation or shitty induction fart.

After investigating a clunk on the front end, I found a broken spring. Quick search of prices for new was around the £70 mark. Each.

Didn't really want to just replace one spring, so went to price a set of slightly lowered items, to see if I could save a quid or two. Found a guy on Ebay who was breaking one, so I got a fairly new set of lowered springs, along with a replacement climate control display, a standard airbox and a recently refurbished gearknob and gaiter for less than the price of a new spring. Result!

Came to fit the front springs, and couldn't get the bottom arm down far enough to get the strut out of the hub. No problem, I'll just undo the drop link to give it a bit more room. Aaaand, snap. Stub of bolt stuck in bottom arm. Oh well, the bushes looked a bit worn, and the balljoint could have been better, so on that, I can justify ordering bottom arms. Might as well order both sides, as I'm sure the same will happen on the other side, and if I replace them both, it should tighten the handling a bit. Ebay beckoned for a budget pair of arms and droplinks for £50.

So this week, I've finished Uni for a couple of weeks, so thought I'd get on whilst the weather was halfway decent. Cack handedness continued, as I split a CV boot whilst jacking up the hub to get the strut back in. Changed this, along with both front bottom arms, droplinks and top mounts. Also changed the rear springs to keep the height balanced.

Drives and sounds much better now, although the ride is a little bit more harsh. Still got to fit the climate display and gearknob, and that should be everything it needs.

Obviously, now I'm thinking of selling it. To be fair to it, it's a decent car. It drives well, pulls well through the gears, and looks pretty good. But, I'm skint, and I've got the 156, as long as it MOTs with minimum fuss. So, up to now, I'm not sure what to do with it, so I'll just keep driving and enjoying it until the five-pot pasta blaster gets legal.

Sounds like pretty standard stuff, I always end up breaking extra shit when I do stuff to cars.

That's the benefit of working on your own cars though - you can spend the money you saved on labour on buying shit you've broken through cackhandedness.

Back from the depths again. The five-pot pasta blaster has passed MOT, so it looks like this is now surplus to requirements. Also, if I sell this and make space, I can get away with buying something else!

So, 51 reg Leon Cupra 1.8 20 valve turbo. 180bhp, metallic blue. Has had front arms and top mounts in the last month, along with good used lowered springs. Drives well, pulls hard through the gears. No smoke, rattles or knocks.Tidy inside and out. Has a little ding on the N/S rear arch, and a few light scratches, but nothing major, and certainly looks respectable. Covered 152000 mles. MOT to late June 2016, but will out a fresh test on it if it brings a decent price. Was thinking of putting it up to the general public at around £1200, so would ask shiters for a grand,

Photos will follow this weekend, as soon as I've washed and hoovered it.

Anyone interested in this for £750, or am I being over optimistic on price? It will go with 12 months MOT, but has been scratched on the side. I think I'll get a lot of that out with a mop, but can't guarantee.
