Chocolatey Citroen gearbox halps please.

Finally had a bit of time and pulled apart the gearbox off the C4 that I thought just needed the Input bearing replacing.

I was right it did, and it must have failed spectacularly as the resulting shrapnel took out many, many teeth.

I'm hoping to find a replacement as cheap as possible under £150.

It's a 2005 C4 1.4 Pez 5 speed, The gearbox is a MA with code 20CQ15.

Anyone know of one going cheap or any alternatives?

Have you asked any of the Citroen Bookface groups? Tend to get lots of people & quick responses. (Citroen C4uk, Citroen Car Club, Pure Citroen for example)

Lots of Peugeots and shitreons use that box. But even though the gearbox's are the same alot have different linkages so watch out for that. So a 307 gearbox might be compatible and maybe cheaper. As long as you get one from a 1.4 or 1.6 you should be OK. I would remove yours and compare side by side any replacement.

This looks like it should do the job, only difference is the reverse switch on mine is purple but I guess that could be down to it being replaced at some point.

I've not tried Faceache as I hate going on it just like the owners forums.

I find the response to French car parts and info wantage much better here than the owners forums.

Can i ask at what mileage did your gearbox shite itself? As i currently have a car that uses the MA box, just thinking if I should be worried or not.

I've got an 03 plate Peugeot 307 1.6

If that's the same box you can have that for way less than £150 delivered

My C4 had an MA box. The gearbox was fine on 145k and showed no signs of crappage - even though I broke the linkage one day instead of punching a chav in the face.

Instead, the bottom end went west because of a blocked turbo strainer.

I couldn't be arsed having it fixed, so I embraced the [automotive] VAG instead.

And no, you can't have the one out of mine 'cos I sold the car.

Can't remember tbh 80k poss, bought it for £250 the story I was given was the lass who owned it took it to her local garage when the clutch went. Was told it would cost too much to repair and she sold it to the garage who sold it to my boss who pinched the fuse box for his and I bought it off him for my dad.

It's had the box replaced as it's covered in breakers marks.

Spent around another £120-130 on bits like seatbelts rubbers and seals etc so another £150 on a gearbox is no bother as it's still cheap.

That's good to know, may as well just bridge it then, the anticipation of disappointment is too much to bear.

I would, saves the heartache. I'm looking forward to finally getting it sorted. I've located a fuse box and although not the exact right one apparently all you loose the use of is the rear wiper.

I have an MA from a 306 here, a 20CC26 - which is the shorter final drive option for 'em - however, it's one with the rarer single linkage selector, so you'd have to check to see if yours is single or triple links.
