I would try veg in the van. it has a Lucas pump but apparently its ok? I miss the smell of the old saxo on veg but with price of diesel at the minute I doubt it warrants the risk.

There's a Fifth Gear test of running a petrol car on diesel and vice-versa. An Escort diesel and an Astra mk3 petrol (or could've been the other way round). Either car ran surprisingly well running either even after flushing the tanks. This can't be a joke surely, especially diesel in a petrol car.

What a mis-leading article for 99% of people. The journalist's point was that garages usually insist you'll have done £000s of damage and need lots of new parts, he aimed to prove them wrong. All he succeeded in proving was that a diesel will not run on mostly petrol for long and vice-versa but you may get away with no damage if it's from the 90s or before.

Many/most modern diesels would have wrecked themselves in that test. Cue lots of 5th Gear watchers with a bad attitude at their garage after mis-fuelling, insisting there must be a mistake since telly said all would be well.

Fifth Gear's piece on veg oil was shit too, the piece implied that you could rock up to a chip shop and pour the oil/lard/sludge straight into the tank.

I have heard that some modern diesels are okay with petrol, my friend's in-laws filled their Focus diesel with petrol and it ran for ages before conking out, once it was flushed and topped up with diesel it ran fine.
