Car Untaxed to Mot Station (and return)

My mega mile Saab 9-5 has been off the road for two years, and needed to move it off my folks driveway.

Only about 5 miles, but got a day Insurance and pre booked the MOT so all legal.

Was then going to drive it home, and possibly break it.

The things only gone and passed  :-D  :-D .

Now where do I stand on driving the car back from the MOT station as it now has a valid MOT?

Obviously after two years was not expecting this, so now concerned I have to tax it just for the day to get it home.

Going to now use the car, but would rather not pay a full months tax for 15 mins use.

Any thoughts;.

No tax needed for journey to & from mot, to and from repairing garage(s), if pre arranged.

You are safe to drive home. Mot is also timed, so easily proven

I'd just go home - you can't tax it on day insurance anyway.

You don't need insurance to tax a car anymore and you don't need tax to drive to and from a pre-arranged MOT.

Absolutely - you're just returning from an MOT, it doesn't need to be taxed. Just drive it home (and roffle it).

Probably will in a month or so, Only drove it a few miles this morning, but the boost/torque is quite addictive.

Whole point of this was to get rid, but now its MOT'd would be rude not to enjoy it for a bit.....

Cheers all

Yeah, as long as you "reasonably not take the piss" then there are reasonably less questions to answer.

In 1999, I bought an untaxed/unMOT'd Reliant in Peatboghorror, Cambs and drove it to Thrapston, Northants to MOT, failed, then home to High Wycombe, Bucks.

More recently, July 2014, I drove from Essex to Bucks (66 miles across 3 Polis force's patches including M11/M25/M40) to a MOT and never got busted. Regardless of outcome, I was ready to proceed to Holyhead for the boat, but the man from the MOT he say yes. Bought tax, saw other polis cars and never got a tug.

Had the same quandry myself when my Astra was off the road for 2 years. Perfectly fine to drive to and from the MOT station.

what annoys me is that the 1983 Representation of the People Act doesn't have the "drive you clapped out shed to the polling station and back" clause.
