A cheap Volvo V40 could it be a money pit

I'm not really clued up with Volvos is there any tell tale signs as the log book has already been sent off and I didnt see any badges suggesting which model it is apart from V40 but he has got all the service books etc so I guess it should say something in there.

I remember years ago a friend of mine had the T4 version in the same colour (s4) and it was quite a rapid motor..

I couldn't comment on the speed of the car as I've never driven it myself and I don't think my father has even given it a test drive as he wasn't sure if his insurance covered him so the previous owner took him out for a spin in the car instead then brought the car round to his house and it's not going to get used till January when the tax and insurance runs out on the BMW I think it was more of an impulse buy than anything else and he was getting jealous as I've always got at least a couple of cars lol

I would imagine though it would only be a turbo though rather than the T4 as the advert didn't say much about the car to be honest..

Looks like a 2.0T LPT, B4204T5. 165 bhp IIRC. Oil leak will probably be the oil return pipe seals from the turbo, paper gasket at one end and a green rubber seal at the other. Like.

Wow thanks for the reply is it hard to change the gaskets and is it worth doing..

I've just been and had a look and it's a 2.0tpost-9282-0-76749300-1450553991_thumb.jpeg

I wish someone would do a list of Volvos in order of preference. Like 850 diesel > 850 petrol > 240 Torslanda > V40 > S60 Manual > S60 Auto > and so on..... In my mind these boxy Volvos are all called 245GLs' (I don't really think they need a bunch of different names). I find it impossible to retain any info about which is which is good and which is bad and I plan on getting one before too long to see what all the fuss is about. But which one?
