Moving to getting shut of the dizzy allows much better control of the ignition timing with benefits for Emissions and torque delivery.  It also allows a higher energy spark to be used as the HT doesn't have to travel far.

My Galaxie does better than that. No coil pack either.

 

Verdict - Ford better than Vauxhall.

I suspect your Galaxie is also a bit older than this year's model. That's what really shocked me there.

Yer engine electronic now controls everything so if you want 1500 volts going through yer engine electronics (that'll be £1700 sir) it'll  give it an average of 0.000013 seconds Mean Time Between Failures then you can dump the coil pack/pencil coil.
