Rumbelows vans & other van schemes ??

Here we go with another selection then now that I'm on a half decent PC! There are dozens of FG bakers vans of every conceivable livery in the collection and they would warrant a thread all their own! There are a number of heavier commercials too. Anyway on we go:

Enjoy :D

By the way, if anyone wants a high res scan of any of the vans I've shown so far or a special request for a local bakery, let me know in a PM.

Fantastic pic's! Have all these companies gone or been absorbed into larger groups?

This looks particularly of its time:

Whereas the others look a bit more olde-worlde, could have been from the '50s or even earlier?

Cor - pies, sausages, bread, cakes, I'm starving now. Top scanning!

So much goodness in this thread... I was watching some BBC programme yesterday, when a name in the credits caught my eye: A certain mr Rumbelow did some carpentry or hung some lights up - bit of a visual cocktail party effect I guess.

Actually the livery looks 70s, but trannies look pre 1971, going on the back door handle and the indicators.....

Fantasictic pictures! :D Were there really so many pie and sausage nakers around in the old days?Takes me back to a time when a fridge contained milk, cheese, eggs, bit of dried out bacon and 1/2 pound of sausages going hard on one edge - and thats it!No Pasta Arrabiata in those days...

* explodes *Just too much!! Joyfold. You are right about the changes in GRUB, Triang. I'd pondered the high level of 'meaty' vans too, but even when I were a lad [not that long ago] there was very little foreign muck to be found in folk's diets. That said, what we were fed on was often some good shiiiit man. Home-made pies, mother mincing up beef with some medieval contraption bolted to the worktop, magic. I wonder what has happened to people's diets, some folk seem to eat the most appalling bilge. I have a deep distrust of any foodstuff that you 'simply' put in the oven or microwave for the allotted time as it comes out either over or undercooked and usually tasting of cardboard. Disgusting. Now I don't profess to be Heston Bloomingheck, but I'll have my grub made with fresh stuff, whether that's traditional british nosh or funny foriegn muck. Only downside is Er Indoors flatly refuses to eat red meat, which makes for headaches creating varied menus. And means I don't get to eat as many meat pies as I would hope to....

I love stuff like that to be honest, but I am known to have particularly low standards when it comes to food. I'm very fond of Asda/Tesco sub-£1 Ready Meals as they remind me of in-flight meals. So I sit in my chair and pretend that I'm some kind of hot-shot on my way to Monaco as I tuck into my bangers and mash. Can't remember there ever being butchers vans as a kid though, perhaps they were a bygone era by then.

and a hello to you Pog after all this time!( i've been a wandering).Looks like you and me are in the same boat - My missus does the same and I really miss stews the most ( too much buggeration to cook for one person).Mind you I managed to wean her onto eggs, bacon gammon and roast pork - but she won't make the leap to beef - dammit...

Come on, lad!

Cook some proper nosh up and pretend that you are a top level exec dining in a swish restaurant.

Some of them ready meals are a joke - half an hour to cook them in the oven. I've just boshed up my chicken tikka for tomorrows dinner now gently marinading in the fridge - 10 mins lashing some spices together, 30 mins in the oven tomorrow tea-time, ultimate yum.

Personally I think this would be a great livery for a historic touring car, running a B20 on 48s. But then I'm odd

Just found this video of Colchester Maternity Hospital where i was born in from the early 70's!, Some cool cars in the car park as well as a Mk1 Transit Ambulance FTW!

What about this:

I'm a big fan of British airline vans. I've got pictures somewhere of one in a lovely red livery but I can't remember what the company name is!

Here's another one:

**EDIT** Here's a nice one!

Can anyone find any more airline vans, especially from long defunct companies?

Mark.
