French hot hatch shite

So now I'm desperately trying to get this thing ready for an MOT. I'm hoping to have it booked in for Tuesday when I have access to a trailer. It doesn't look massively pretty but I can worry about that afterwards.

I've cobbled together a set of 4 decent tyres. Got the exhaust on, cooling system bled, oil changed etc. Temporary mirrors on which look GASH. Also who needs front foglights anyway?

Tested it on a private road earlier and it aint too bad in all fairness. All the lights on the dash go out..

Apart from the ABS light. GODDAMMITYOULITTLEBASTARD!!

Luckily it's easy enough to test the system with a multimeter and the following photo I found online.

You basically check the resistance of each wheel circuit. So popped off the pump plug and tracked it down to the o/s rear.

Typically the little swine was stuck fast so plenty of COME ON YOU F&~#$ER with a hammer has sorted that out.

So tomorrow I need to obtain a new sensor and some rack gaitors. I'll ring the MOT place in the morning to see if I can get it booked in for Tuesday and then you lot need to keep your fingers crossed for me.

As said above, great job with the reverse barrying. Is that really what a standard VTS interior looks like though? Performance enhancing drugs must have been involved in the design process, Shirley?

Yep standard interior for a mk1 VTS (97-99) The Mk2 Vts wasnt much better....

Has the vts sunroof been treated to a liberal coating of poundshop bathroom sealent . I.ve had 2 of these and both leaked like a sieve . Worryingly the water use to run down the a pillars an straight on to the fuse box . Mine met it's end when the lad i sold to ran out of talent and hit 2 parked cars

What an excellent thread - the old beast looks like it was never dismantled in the first place. It's one lucky Saxo. Good work on the others too.

No all 3 of them touch wood are dry(1 x VTS, 2 x GTI)

A lot of the time it's the drains that get blocked or the tray rots out..

Well thats another job ticked off the list. Called around this morning for an abs sensor and most places quoted me £40 for one the robbing bar stewards. Eventually tracked one down for £20 at a fairly local place. Decided to walk the mutt there to pick it up thus killing two birds with one stone. Why do dogs always decide to lay an egg in full view of a row of traffic stopped at a red light?

Anyway, £20's worth of Abs sensor...

Boshed it on but got it in slightly off centre causing the mounting bolt not to quite line up(about 1mm out!). This caused my stress levels to go through the roof as it wouldnt budge now it was in and I had to strip the rear brake assembly down to gain access to it. A bit of wood and a hammer had it sorted...

Worthwhile effort?

YOU BLOODY COWARDLY FRENCH PIECE OF SH.. oh hang on, you need to drive them to reset the system! So cleared what felt like too many cars off the drive(there is too many..) and set the chav chariot free. Up to 20 mph and.....

The early grilles definitely looked best. I was always keeping an eye out for one to fit mine, circa 2005 ish:

Evening GANGZTARS, No Renault 20 nonsense in here please, I've got Bol and FOAD on the door so your not coming in.

So long story short, I didn't take it for an MOT. I'm back at work next week then off again over Christmas for 2 weeks. Reasons for not booking the MOT was reported in the news 24 thread.

Common issue on these little buggers. Nothing for it but to chop it out and repair it properly. If only Peugeot/Citroen had seam sealed them properly in the first place eh?

Choppy choppy.

Then a bit of snip, trim, snip, trim, prime, weld, grind etc

Then onto another layer, gets rather boring but hey it's got to be done. At least I got to use a hammer for this one...

And to rap it up for now I ground the welds back and gave them a coat of etch.

There's a frilly bit left on this side but I'll worry about that next year when the suns out...

Best check the other side out now and see what that's like!

Love your attention to detail on the little pressings in the repair section. Very nice work!
