I can't remember what I had for breakfast or if I've taken my pills or not.

The only way I can remember things is chronologically so I'd have to start at the beginning and list everything.

CBA, Sorry!

2005 hmm...... I think i started the year in a silver over grey sierra sapphire 2.0lx f???jca, i also had a pogweasal maroon capri laser a284rhg.

Ended the year with a sapphire glsi k125anm, and an orion of some sort....maybe a maroon 1.4 gl?

Silver sierra got sold to a twat who broke it for locost that never got finished, capri sold by a twat because it lost a coin flip (two parking spaces, three cars).

A couple of write offs in between bought and sold for small profit as well.

Yikes, I've got a blog entry from 10 years ago...

I've been mucking about trying to get the flip fitted. The front was used for hillclimbing and it looks like it has hit a few hay bales in its life, but it's in great nick for £30 and just needs a little tidying for paint. The guy who had it was obviously running a stretched wheelbase as it mounts about 4" too far forward using his mountings! Slight modification later and all is good.

The compressor is that ancient looking contraption on the left. 1/3 horsepower and it works really well!

Hey, it almost looks like a car again! It's been a great boost to put it on and it feels like the car might actually get finished one day. There's still loads to do but it feels like it's nearly done now! I need some lights!

I think what I'm going to try and do is make it obvious that it's a flipfront instead of trying to hide it. It's going to be all ripply when I paint it, as fibreglass is, so I'll actually use that as a feature rather than wasting my time trying to flatten it.

Well it's nearly time to put the engine back in the Anglia. My welding mission at the front is nearly over, just a few more bits to do and a spray over and that bit is ready. Bit of background, the compression on the engine I built up is too low and it needs machining to get it back up which I can't afford at the moment. What I planned to do was put in a similar engine to tide me over until I can afford the work...

So I've picked up a non-running 1200cc version of my one off eBay! It needs a rebuild, but basically means I can slip in my race cam, drop on my race head, slide on the 40's and off I go! I reckon I can wring 100hp out of it with a bit of nurturing!

Only one issue with the 1200 which is it only has 3 bearings on the crank while the 1600 has 5. This means it can be a bit rubbery but the pistons also weigh a hell of a lot less than the 1600. At the end of the day it is a road engine, not a race engine which means although it is in the same state of tune it won't be at high revs all the time or for very long.

I think it will be fine for 8000rpm. The 1700 I ran before took all the abuse I could throw at it and had no rev limiter. Actually my only worry is that my race head might have been opened up for the 85mm bore while the 1200 is on the standard 79mm bore.

Edit: I didn't mention how much I paid for the engine - £35

Lol, I remember that engine but I definitely don't remember the silly plans for it!

Anyway, this was earlier this morning on the way to work, next to a local Jag workhorse:

My son had just been born (it was his 10th birthday just yesterday) and momentarily I might have had my mind on other things. Quite a bit of car rubbish came and went though, as they were the days when old Datsuns/Nissans could be picked up for £25-50.

I'd had this one since 1997 and eventually sold it on in 2007. I may also have bought a tidy yellow one for £50, but that could have been 2006.

This was £25, complete with Starsky & Hutch stripe. Eventually broken for spares (still got some of them).

This was my everyday transport from 2004-05, sold it to ScrapingScrap/UtterPiffle. It recently came up for sale in France.

Another £25 job. It was pretty rough with an interior that reeked of stale smoke but it had some charm and replaced the 180B as my daily after I threw a bit of money at it. Eventually broken for spares, the engine is still on my driveway.

This was effectively my Father's Day present from SL Jr #1, another one picked up for £25. Needed more work than expected so got stripped and sold to a local banger racer.

And the maroon one was our sensible family transport. 10 years on and it's still with father-in-law.

Datsun 160J SSS, somewhere in Germany 1995 by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

My daily driver, which still remains one of the favourite cars I’ve owned. Did over 20k a year in it from 1994-96, replaced by a T-reg 180B.

This was a rough little thing, but is notable for being my first foray into having more than one car on the road. When we got a house together Mrs SL-to-be used it as daily transport for a few months, mixing it with the HGV’s on the A14.

The luxury of a double garage at my rented house meant I could dabble with stripping cars. Two were awaiting collection by the scrapman here, an early 140J which I’d got from someone who told the most preposterous lies and another 160J SSS which I bought from a chap called Mr Snowball. I probably still have some bits from these cars as well....

No pics, but I had a 1995 Peugeot 306 XRDT. My first diesel car,and what a car.50k miles in one year and never missed a beat. The wheels never stopped turning on that car and I have read had a car as good since. I also had a mini I built to look like a Monte Carlo rally car.
