Spotted this at decathlon earlier:

Hard to see in the pic but there is a registration behind the tinted bit. Any ideas what this is? Does it illuminate or something?

Attached to a very scene polo coupe which I couldn't be arsed taking more pics of.

I've a feeling it might be a half arsed attempt to fool ANPR cameras...

Either that or it's some kind of illuminating effort... Nice and legal* either way!

Bang on illegel, looks daft and just asking to be pulled over.

Look out for the Grade A bellend on Traffic Cops BBC1 next week..

About as stupid as a pineapple, hope plod pulls the knob head !

Yup, another fool-the-speedcam/ANPR device, will only be a matter of time before cops clock this and pull/ticket the owner.

Ironically, this type of thing seems popular on the dimwit types who appear to go out of their way to attract the attention of the traffic plod in the first place!

These nutters will start tinting their headlights next, so it's easier to not see things in the dark.

That looks like an liquid crystal plate blocker which VWmong has wired up so it's active when the car is stationary, sometimes called called "ghost plate" and can be controlled via a hook up to yer Splat Nav to be active when it detects exceeding the speed limit. In this case it will probabily do the inverse and only non-active when  exceeding the speed limit so that's OK.
