Forgot this one. And people still treat it with some reverence when I'm waiting to get out of a junction...

I definitely want to do the door pins - it's about the worst physical aspect of using the car (bar the very reluctant/sure something is breaking windows) because those doors are simply too heavy to lift (and there's no way to when the window doesn't want to open easily) on closing.

Not sure on top? It's unpainted.

Thermostat barely bothers 70. There's a load of extra heater stuff for a secondary radiator under the deck seat for demisting those rear windows, but it doesn't warm up even when ignored for hours.

Also need a courtesy light door switch to fix the passenger side - when I have the doors "right" I'm going to work on the stereo. Subwoofer and 6 x 9s strategically placed, I think. There's a little room in the back (actually I'm going to hook it all up under the pallbearer's seat behind the driver - easy access for connections).

Shout if you want the door hinge puller - or not no worries eitherway

post a picture of the engine more inlet manifold detail betters

70's is failed stat - never be tempted to remove the stat - you'll have a pressure cooker

Posted

Oh, I will replace, not remove - I hate bodges. And yes, I would like to use the puller when I've got some new hinge pins sorted!

Engine picture sometime soon - I was going to give the engine bay a bit of a clean up and some waxoyl now I have put the new battery in.

Prodding eBay for Senator bits, I found door pins. Four now ordered. If that cures the droopy driver's door I will be very happy indeed. Even if the underneath is slowly dissolving beneath the fibreglass bodykit.

Nice to see the old bus is still getting a bit of use. Car parks are a bit difficult as they don't quite fit in one space, but at least you know no bugger will park near it. I found most members of the public tend to run away rather than go near a hearse.

From memories of a carton, they all run that cool sir.

Great sheddage with excellent rear storage space.

I get positive feedback about it most places. Girl in the petrol station really liked it - wonder if she's secretly a goth.

This is the hearse engine...

The thermostat housing, I guess.

And the interior with the radio nicely installed and not cutting out all the time.

It does scrub up ok doesn't it. I really should of looked after it better but at least it's got a good home now.

I'm obviously concerned about the next MoT - can feel some loose metal in the arches, which is odd - maybe part of an arch liner or something as the structure is so strange I can't work out why it would be there, but a lot of structural mud washed out. But for the most part it is looking nice.

Fancy a DS420 or XJ6/8 one next. It's so nice to drive and people don't react badly at all for the most part. There's a lovely Mercedes W124 hearse for a bit over £2K on eBay but it's only a 4 cylinder model.

top gothicing there Sir, I am partial to a bit of the darkside myself, had a stretch Merc once from the co-op funeral services, but didn't do much with it and sold it on too quickly really, regret it now :-P

Decent Jaag/daimler hearses aren't peanuts any more are they :-(

Right, I don't have time to deal with the MoT on this - so it's up for sale if anyone is interested. My normal MoT tester thought it might pass as is - but there are some holes in the rear body to chassis construction, so it's a matter of "They're not structural, but near structural bits". Has now got 80,000 miles on it, a brand new good quality battery a few months ago, and can also come with an American coffin (doesn't fit the back too well) - the coffin does cost a bit extra because I'll make it into a bookcase otherwise!

I could probably get a decent amount for it as a banger racer/donor for that nice 3.0 six - I'd be happy with a straightforward £350 (the plate will be going on retention though). Obviously it drives, and actually drives well. I haven't been underneath it to check the chassis condition, but there are some obvious gaps between rear body and extensions.

It's SORN and uninsured presently. Direct Line insured it for me for £200 so the car is probably on their system.

Crikey is it a year already? I remember contributing, yet didn't get off my arse to go and see it.

So is there a special idea for the plate... early Freelander with its original factory gasket?

I presume this will go back onto its K410 PLP.

It used to wear K50 AWB which seems to be on a 2005 Aussie Ford, a Fairlane-based Mk10 Cardinal hearse perhaps.

If you struggle to find a home I will have Geoff back. I don't really have room for him but have had a few customers ask what happened to him so maybe I should have yet another go at hearse ownership. The car is solid really just where the body meets the original shell is a bit rough. The inner sills were really good but the outers where they join to the fibreglass are a bit rough. It does depend on the tester really. To do a proper job it will need the  body cut open to repair it then fibreglass it back up. Other than that it drove really well but did like a drop of fuel. If the only offers are from racers then please don't let him get raced as I will have him back for £350.

Well, the £350 is purely because that's the bit I paid out of the price - I haven't forgotten how it was funded, and did at least get it to Festival of the Unexceptional!

And I would be delighted for you to have it back, no need to put the plate on retention and you know the car very well!

Rather unfortunate reg plate. Lets hope it's not a portent of things to come.

The number of the beast + head gasket failure. Worth mega bucks Shirley.

Where abouts does he need collecting from ? If no one else has come forward with a good plan to save him by the weekend then I will have him back. I have got A666HGF on retention at the mo ready to go on the Porsche so could leave K666 on Geoff

Posted

I was thinking of putting K666 on the 500SEC if the hearse went to anyone but you - just because I don't like the very generic number on the SEC at the moment. I'll catch up on PMs later - there's a bit of interest at least! If I weren't so oversubscribed with life running up to Halloween I would have tried the local commercial MoT place, but it was too long for the ramp/light testers here :/

Collection from J20 M1 - will drive anywhere, honestly, if it were MoT exempt I'd drive it to Scotland & back without hesitation. Last long run it did was to Maidstone and back!
