New car oil issue.

To be honest on a car of this value just keep topping the oil up. My Mazda has stuffed piston rings (known issue if poorly serviced) and has probably needed a litre every 500 miles, which is about £50 in oil in 10k miles. Passed MOT as it only (visibly) smokes when cold.

A compression test won't tell you if you have stuck oil rings ! Is the breather under the fannymold ok ?

My 1.7 puma ran like a twat with the wrong spec oil in it, picked up a grade lower and semi by accident and thought wcpgw...

Have you had it up to the redline yet? What does it do? Pick a race with another one with the same engine in and compare the performance (and try not to get stabbed in the process...)

It won't physically go to the limiter on the move in kick down. Approx 750 rpm before it changes up. Been out with friends tonight and now I'm the butt of very bad volkswagen jokes. Regards performance, a friend has just scrapped a 2.0 focus ghia but with a manual box. He drove mine and said it feels very lively for a 1.6 auto so cant be too bad.

It may mean something or it may not but I've noticed the oil goes from golden brown to black pretty damn quick too

Petrol cars oil normally stays clean for a good while, does on the Shuma. The diesel gets dirty almost straight away.
