Intercontinental sporadic shite diagnosis

This is a wild stab in the dark, but someone may have a useful* suggestion.

A dear friend with not much money has a mid-90s Daewoo Cielo, ie. Nexia/mk2 Astra.  She lives in Port Douglas, Queensland - so, much as I would like to, popping round to have a quick look is sadly not really an option.

It still seems to run OK, but the EML has come on.  Some Google-fu suggests the O2 sensor might be on the fritz, though it hasn't yet been introduced to a fault-code reader.

Any thoughts?

Get a cheapy OBD2 reader and the torque app for a smartphone and it will cost about 10% of what a garage will charge. It won't give you ALL the info but probably enough to see what area the problem lies in.

most likely the oxy sensor - civic does this regularly and its been foreign cuntries inc scotland and never a problem - most likely dirty sensor or broken wire

15 quid on a reader would be a good idea - garage would charge that to have a look and do the same

This is what I have advised, but it's the wee small hours of tomorrow where she lives...  ;)

I would have been worried if any older v/x based car didn't have the eml on.  Try the paperclip method; on that age, it's bound to work.
