removing over spray from black plastic?

Recommended Posts

I have being do some work on the 607. It's actually starting to look quite good now (I reversed it into a concrete pillar a few years back and effectively wrote it off).

Unfortunately some metallic silver base coat from a rattle can managed to find its way on a black plastic strip that runs around the bumper.  It's not heavily painted just a light misting.

Is there any easy way to remove it?

Nail varnish remover may work if you don't have any thinners

Use the time/space continuum. Reverse into the concrete pillar and start again? Save on buying clay bar or Rain x wipes?

I tried a Chinese clay bar, but the bumpers were textured and it fell apart... The overspray remains.

I used some stuff called 'What scratch?' From Wilko.

£3.99 and works well. Bit like TCut but more versatile IMHO.

I recently did this myself on my Transit. White paint on grey plastic because of my shit masking job!

To get it of I used a bit of old rag and some Jif cream cleaner (sorry I mean Cif) got it off easily.

Well done for getting rattle can paint to adhere well enough to not fall off under its own weight, brake cleaner and a rag takes the stuff off easily.

Don't use Acetone (Nail polish remover) cos theres a pretty good chance you'll melt the plastic - it dissolves ABS.

Brake cleaner / 2k thinners (not cellulose thinners) and a stiff nylon brush works well.
