Well I've still got the fucking thing. Not seen it, or the Sterling for ages though as I've been away for a week and have been driving my company car.

Probably going to be quitting/getting sacked/having a meltdown from my current job and going self employed, which means two things: the company car goes (shame) and I will be doing mega miles up and down the country...I'm considering the lunacy of dailying the 6-oh-shit.

It seems cruel to use the Rover as a hack and eveytime I take it out, something happens (last time I went anywhere further than work, a yoof threw a trainer at it and a bird crashed into it).

The evil Rover is becoming one with the ground, contaminating the Fens with oil, which I never intend to drive ever again.

If you want a cheaper to run (probably) daily with less potential* for crapping the autobox, I'd swap the Accord for the 605 so I could have something to threaten the 406 with. Obviously once I've repaired the Accord's front calipers - it's got new discs & pads, needs the pistons freeing off/replacing. It has sunroof, leather, aircon, autobox...

I've had six Peugeot autos to date and I have yet to experience any auto box pukage.

I also have a haunted Rover P6 V8, I have you know, which so far shat 3 of the allegedly indestructible BW65 boxes within 5,000 miles.

The only other car of EVAH I owned, that threw the auto box toys out of the pram, was a '78 Caprice Classic.

That one had a TH350, of which failures are bloody unheard of.

It had racked up 240,000 miles at that point and it happened in Dublin, of all places. Don't ask. Please.

Maybe auto box PHAIL has a lot to do with how you drive? With the exception of haunted P6es, of course.

Because they are possessed by evil spirits. Which are evil.

Cheers Richard! Possibly something to think about.

The gearbox seems smooth enough. Or maybe I'm just used to the crap one in the Rover? Pretty sure that's a PSA box as well!

The mentalist in me, and that's a large section of me, wants to use the 605 as a daily/work barge just to prove a point: that point being I'm a moron. I'm looking for an excuse to hang on to it really.

The immobiliser has voted to take industrial action and go on strike. It did this at midnight of course, at a place just too far to walk home from, so I dragged a friend out of bed to tow me back home. It's now sitting on the drive staring at me.

French car is French.

Shitting a conrod perhaps? Eating a gear maybe? It's a kaleidoscope of pain.

Still, I'm enjoying looking at the Pininfarina styling and you can't do that from behind the wheel.

look at its lines whilst drinking espresso and eating le croisaint at breakfast on a warm summers day. then you will realise how good it is.

Sadly, I won't have that chance. I fixed it this morning by disconnecting the battery (which needed a hammer to get it out...FFS what car need a hammer to take the battery out?).
