Newgate Street has changed massively in the past 20 years. Bit of a shame about Newgate House and the Mayfair, though I'm too young to have ever gone there. I hate going past the Gate late at night, seems rough as hell.

That's so strangely familiar that I seriously checked whether I am in the queue.

I made a reference [Get Carter] to the stairwell on the old carpark. During the works on Tyne & Wear METRO the Gateshead interchange/Underground station was built 'in' this bombsite carpark.

 

A huge hole was dug and the structure looked like a 5 storey block of flats >> but with the roof level with the ground.

From the top floor you got a cracking view of the job...
