Being between jobs for a week I agreed to give a mate of a mates Bike a good going over- a tidy looking Kawasaki ER6-F, one of the first on an 06.It's done just over 20 thousand, and has never been touched by anyone except a proper bike shop. Looks like they did absolutely feck all. I assembled all the service stuff, stripped off the fairings and got to work. The push fit stick coils wouldn't come out with a pull, nor with a screwdriver, nor with a pair of Vise grips, and even a 4 ft lever. I ended up having to take the rocker cover off with the coils in place, break them up in place and hammer them out.....The metal sleeve had corroded, swelled and welded itself to the alloy rocker cover. Once out I found someone had had a go before, gave up and siliconed up the crack they'd left. Fork oil was black and stinking, plenty of seized bolts, rusty pads... just a mess.

FSH. Means nothing.

I disagree.

It means your mate's mate has had his trousers pulled down.

I've never owned anything new enough to bother with main stealer history, but i'd take it to my local shite-friendly garage anyway; £60ph+ for doing nowt? I'm in the wrong job.

Vehicles are getting better and better and they wear their miles very well with scant attention, and often still have a lease/rental or company owner for their first three years.  The general philosophy seems to be that we'll pretend to service them if the drivers pretend to look after them.  You don't have to be around the trade too long to find out who really do the jobs they are paid for and the others whose monthly parts bill consist merely of ink for the service stamp plus white grease for the door hinges.

It can be difficult to find a good bike mechanic that does a proper job.

I remember taking my 125 to a place in Widnes I refuse to name - I wanted new exhausts fitting that I supplied.

They did fit them, and dented the tank FOC. Another place down the road lost the keys to the bike of somebody I know. The motorcycle business can be worse than cars - cut throat with litttle margin. Partly the reason why Carnell and a few others went to the wall ( the fact they were'nt very good didnt help matters).

Either spanner it yourself, or find someone you CAN trust.
