New car SORN for three days?

Recommended Posts

I have just bought a 318i and don't want to tax it until the 1st of September. If I send in a SORN it won't arrive until after and the muppets there will cancel the tax. Has anyone left it a few days under the new system? Just wondering if I need to send them a letter saying was SORN for three days just in case they decide to fine me as it's one big fat profit making machine. Anyone had a similar experience?

Me personally I'd leave it if the car was taxed before you bought it. Good case for argument because how can they charge twice?

I just bought an Audi and waited for the v5 to sorn it, so for two weeks it stated untaxed with keeper change on the doovla site.

No fine yet.

You can do everything online now, even change of keeper. I did it this morning, it finishes with ' you can now destroy the front page of the V5c'

Knowing how good Doovla are I think I'll wait till I get the acknowledgement letter and my tax refund till I take that drastic step.

In other news I taxed a car over the phone the other day , logbook hadn't come through and we'd lost the green slip- No problem says a bird that sounded suspiciously like Nessa off Gavin and Stacey, just couldn't do it monthly had to be 6 months on a card.

Sorn seems like a good idea if you don't need your new car straight away, so you don't have to pay tax for a full month and only use the for a few days. I like that.

Can't you SORN it online?

I tried sorning mine from the green slip but it wouldn't let me just said call or post a form, fook that so as soon as the v5 came through it sorned straight away on line,

Yup, you can only SORN by post or phone for some weird reason.,it's a big con designed to make you forget so they can fine you. That why I was wondering what to do as it's only four days.
