'Shiterz!!!!!!

 

After a slight holiday from the forum due to working 12 hr days and my wife being pregnant with our 3rd child, i haz returned. my daily driver 1995 ford fairmont 4.0 wagon has decided that being held together by gaffa and string was offensive, and that it wanted to return 11mpg, and that consuming 3l of water in 40km. it been on 398,000kms didnt help. the old bus served me well, but it was time for something better. 

 

instead i bought a 2003 hyundai elantra in fleet silver. its a manuel, has the mid range 1.8, and is a gl, so a/c and e/w as std. no central locking and no cd as std (worlds oddest cd headunit is there now).

it had spent most of its life in darwin, as a govt registered car, meaning it had prob been used by a nurse or something. it had about 40kg of dirt and twigs and leaves, and dog detritus in it aswell.....

 

it got traded in at my work, about 7 months ago, and sat, forlorn in the corner of "dons disasters", the trade in lot. it ended up with an inch of moss and cobwebs and flat tires. 

 

so how did i end up with this peice of motoring malaise?

 

my boss, asked if anyone wanted the thing, for $200 ( 120quid) on the proviso it went away that night. ignoring the dead tyres, that were bald aswell as flat, the toxic interior and the slight damage to the headlight ("its 'onest as guv"), i got it running  and handed $200 to my boss, who breathed a sigh of releif and went to buy a slab of beer with his wealth. :/

 

having removed it from its hole and inserted it onto my hoist. i was greeted by a genuinely solid car, needing:

 

4 tyres, used good ones for bonus cheapo points

 

x2 front shocks. the strut tops are rooted and the shocks have zero damping

 

a rear tail light. it has a bullet hole. a real one.....

 

a rear engine mount. which costs more than the car so i'll sikaflex it up.

 

and a rocker cover gasket. oil leaks like a leyland product....

 

and a clutch. its still ok but bites extremely high. 

 

and a ruddy good clean

 

so i cleaned it.

 

 

i painted the grille as it had peeled and had leprosy.

impressive boot

it reminds me of an austin maxi for some reason. vague gearchange and huge space yet cheap. and oilleaks.....

Excellent. I love the half-arsed rear styling of these - as if the bloke designing the light clusters wasn't allowed to speak to the bloke designing the tailgate.
