I just HAVE to include this shot, for it's comedy value. This is a fellow resident of the student house, who REALLY loved himself to bits!! He insisted I take this pic of him on 007 mode, with a target shooting air pistol and the Toyota Crown Coupe. Hope he's not out their somewhere browsing this forum!!

I wish I'd had a camera when I was a nipper. Remember seeing V8 Mk1 Escorts (with huge tail-lights), Moggy Minors likewise and a Mini with a Merc W114 front end!Ace shots. Loving the Dyane and GS break in one of the shots - and how many BMC 1100s?!And yes, it is an Armstrong Siddeley. Lancaster I think (how's that for a patriotic, immediately post-war name?!)

that Jag/Roller has always intrigued me. Looks like the front, forward of the A post, is all RR (it looks to me like the distance between the A post and the wheel arch is longer than a standard Jag, so looks like MAJOR surgery) but how did he make it fit so well? Just had a closer look at the car park pic, and looks like the Cortina is a 2 door, so can't be mine!! Well, it is over 35 years ( ) since I took them, so plz forgive the memory lapse!

Asides from the excellent content, they're very good photos. What sort of camera did you use? There's a lot of call for bygone images of everyday scenes these days - remember the feverish responses to the 1985 car park images on here? These sort of things sell - got to be worth looking into it - maybe a book of something.

Interesting thought Datsun! Might look into that, though I'm not sure where to start! I've always been seriously into photography, and I think back then I had a Practika SLR with a 135mm lens. It's amazing how the advent of digital has made photographers out of everyone. I've attended air shows and car shows (you should see the collection of slides I have from them!!) since I was about 15, and back then you'd see a few people with SLRs and a few more with Instamatics. At similar events these days, EVERYONE is toting a digital camera, and a good half of them are pretty serious kit!

There were a lot of students of course, and not a great deal of mixing between "the arts" and "the sciences" but no doubt our paths crossed in the Union Bar or maybe one of the student pubs. Who knows?

Just for fun I totted up how many of the makes in this thread had been owned by family and friends. came up to 28..my bro in law even had an armstrong siddley whittley my dads first NEW car was a 1952 prefect which he must have disliked because it was replaced by a velox 12 months later.my first..a 1939 prefect.

Armstrong Siddley very proud of their aviation links so yes you had the Lancaster, Typhoon and Hurricane.

And, from the post above, Whitley. Possibly the least likely 'plane to name a car after being, slow, obsolete, and a death trap!! Though, of course, it was made by Armstong Whitworth, so I guess the link was obvious, and it's shortcoming something not admited to at the time.

This is, I beleive, a '54 Chrysler New Yorker. Wonderful beast!!

Closest I got was this!! A '65 4-door Delux, with a GT engine and box. This is where it was parked when it was rear-ended by some pillock who didn't bother to stop.

I absolutely LOVED being here!!!

However, I've been looking at some old holiday pics too. These were taken in Spain (Estartit) in '72:-

I remember these SO well- we always called them Yellow Perils.

In those days, I didn't have a proper telephoto lens, just a 3 X converter which fitted between the camera body and it's standard lens. Quality not great.

And it sure DOES rain in Spain!!

But it's usually sunny!

My mum was round earlier so I showed her this thread. She recognised this as College Road maybe? Obviously most of the pictures have little to identify places for non-car people

 

 

My dad (and the friend who I'm in touch with) finished there in '68. I might send a few of the more unusual cars (eg Armstrong Siddley) to dad's freind and see if he remembers them at all. He was driving an Elan at the time - in fact he's still driving the same Elan!
