Tell me about Lexus Is200 ?

I went to look at the linked example in the first post and to be honest it was a fairly honest car. 3 things put me off, 1) the bodged rust on the end of the rear sills, with failed masking on the inner wheel arch plastic trim, so silver overspray, and starting to bubble.

There was also very rusty petrol tank straps, and a very rusty exhaust. I think it's lived near the sea.

2) The dealer was a bullshitting retired gentleman dealer / twat, who ooooooozzzzzzed charm and who I decided was not to be trusted.

3) It was all a bit weird to drive. Might be the fact that it's a lovely smooth auto, but it felt wrong. (Might be the fact that I've been ragging around in 2 different Mx5's this week)

If it had been £800-£1000 then I might have taken a chance on it.

You've just described all second hand car dealers in Essex.

A right PITA to deal with, and enough to put you off even the nicest of cars.

Never driven one but all I've ever seen on those Is200s is that the alloy wheel paint crumbles for fun.

So much so Lexus were re-spraying them during as part of the service routine when they were quite new (I titter ye not). Probably owing to that funny pearl-like paint finish they have. Some Fords from 2005-ish seem to have the same problem with a similar finish.

My man maths tells me I should buy one of these 2 (or both)

Budget is erm flexible in that I can justify via man maths.

I do 15000 miles a year, mostly to Derby and Back.

My "sensible" Wife would prefer I buy something "that reflects your company director status" -

I struggle to take ownership of any "aspirational" brand seriously though.

apart from this : http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/321820882952?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

We need 5 seats occasionally, and a moderate sized boot.

Obviously this is autoshite and this fits the bill.

Astra - yes.

Focus - someone's changed the wheels. Worn steering wheel and slightly dull light lenses and I can't remember if that's a HID kit or factory Xenons but it doesn't seem right. Can be expensive to fix if it goes wrong, DMF etc. Tidy looking otherwise.

Audi - eh...

Accord - no no no no please no. You'll die of boredom.

May I suggest this fine automobile

Should return over 30 mpg, as quiet as a Legend, heated leather and AC, will be a pleasure to drive those 15000 miles a year.

There a low mileage V6 on the bay as well, but petrol cost will bankrupt you as you can see from my sig.

Don't buy an AUDI, everything after the 80/90/100 is just so terminally dull.
