Reluctance to sell...

That looks great - got any more details on it?

That does look lovely. I like the colour and it looks to be in great nick. They definately got the styling right with the Capri.

This I've owned since 2000, 15 years, been in garage since 2004. I'm sick of looking at the bloody thing. And I have another one!! :(

I'd love to use the Amazon more if only I could get the fucker out of the garage as every cunt in the universe loves to park in front of it FFS.

Guilty: Seldom use my 205GTi (tho' had a lovely long blast in it yesterday for the first time in three months! Fired right up) but like the Mini-owner, if I sold it, I'd never be able to afford another the way the prices are going/have gone.

The other is my bike, though I really like riding it, I seldom ride now, just gone off bikes really, not that I was ever a rabid enthusiast. I bought my immaculate Yam 350YPVS in 1992 to do my IAM advanced test (which I did) and intended to sell it after but never did. It lived in my kitchen when I was renting for five years (made working on it comfortable) and it now in my garage with the 205 but my yearly mileage for probably ten years now has rarely been over 100mls per year - much to the amusement of the lads at the workshop I take it to for MoT'ing!

I still love riding the thing only a few times a year, it costs little to insure/tax/run, needs no work currently and is just no bother so there's no reason to sell in that respect. Plus it's worth three times what I paid and increasing as there's so few about now (even less unrestored like mine). I even put new tyres and pads on it the other year to prompt me to use it more, hopefully may try this year. TBH - even if I stopped riding altogether, I'd still keep it but I'd put it in my lounge!

As far as I see it, you have these 'pets' - so what? If they give you pleasure just looking at them & don't cost the earth or are a hassle then whats the problem? In many cases they can actually be appreciating assets and if you don't need the money for anything else then personally I'd rather have something nice to look at and use than the money in the bank (getting fuckall% interest).

I've just bought an MR2 as a fun summer toy to play around in, with the missus. The problem is my other fun summer toy, which I've owned for three years, is sat on the drive unused and uncared for. I don't really want to sell it though, as I can't handle the idea of someone else driving off in my car. In the meantime, I have a snotty old Audi estate as my daily, which I should also shift as I don't really want to fork out on the imminent DMF, clutch failure and old cambelt snappage, all of which have been threatening during my 12 month ownership.

Ideally, I should sell the lot and buy a 'decent' daily, but I'll probably remain known as 'that bloke with a bloody car park outside the front of his house.' I've always thought it endearing that my OH smiles at my affliction, but I'm now wondering whether a more draconian attitude from her would be more appropriate.

This..................

I know it's not to everybody's taste but for some irrational reason I love it. It's just failed an MOT on some front chassis rail corrosion issues. How the bumper has stayed on the car amazed me so I just had to buy new brackets which came from Germany and cost me an eye watering £55 plus all the other parts I have just had to buy. It isn't going to see the road again this year but come March it will be ready for another MOT.

Also I would be extremely reluctant to sell my Defender. It isn't getting a lot of use at the moment but I know I would feel lost without it. I suppose having grown up around Land Rovers and spending a majority of my working life in and around Land Rovers they have become a part of me. I am now unreliable, temperamental, expensive to run and I leak a bit.

I sold my Yamaha RD250 in yellow with clips ons, rearsets and expansion chambers over thirty years ago...

I still wish i had it now.

The same with my XR4i it wasn't being used, so i sold it, regret it now.

I can't see anything wrong with keeping hold of a vehicle for sentimental reasons.

That is gorgeous.

Wanted urgently:-  burgundy Mk3 Ford Capri 2.8injection, cash waiting

Thanks, I've had my Capri around 6 years, first 4 I was out to shows and just driving it but work and other things seem to have taken over... It's still a 2.0 but YB.

I've added info to the garage, will get pictures up at some point but still too few posts at the moment.

Thanks, it's almost the same as std colour, the back arches and scuttle arent as fresh as they used to be though...

Did you colour match the car to the drive? Or was it matching the drive to the car?

I had a 2.0S in stratos silver before so the driveway just happens to match this one better. A chap on here spotted my old one, CMS, years ago and I contacted him, will find the thread.

A lot of folk say its just a car and to enjoy variety but I know I'll miss this one if I ever do sell..

How often has anyone bought one back?

...has been re-chassised (1998), de-rusted and had a full engine rebuild (both 2002-03).  Naturally, it's done only about 2000 miles since and spent the last six years in the garage.  But I've had it for nearly 25 years and you will have to pry the keys from my cold dead hand.

Don't really want or need my cortina. But I'll never sell it. A fit of enthusiasm 18 months ago saw it stripped and all the bodywork repairs done, needs a bit of engine work and a paint and it's back on the road, but I can't be arssd. So it sits where it sits gathering dust

There is one car I would never sell and that is my mk1 sierra 3 door base, ive owned it since I was about 17, my dad surprised me with it on father's day, i have spent alot of time and money making it into something special, it may not very to everyone's taste on here what I have done to it, but all of the base model trim was already buggered, modifying it was the only way of saving it.
