Rovah 200 Michael Buble help needed- SRS light shenanigry!

Calling all you whisperers to all things longbridge....

 

A mate of mine at work has a little N reg 200 1.4i, and it has the SRS light of doom showing.

 

I did some interenettery and saw you can reset it by bridging a connector under the dash.

 

 

The guides I read all made reference to a 2 pin yellow connector, just to the right of the OBDII socket.

this 1995 one does not have such luxuries.- the only plug to be found is the one pictured below.

 

Some bridging got the SRS light to blink once- beyond that, nae joy!

 

Anyone any ideas how to get it to reset?

That two pin your looking for is on the Honda derived 400 . I don't think the 200 has that . Connectors under the seats are fav but many srs systems don't self reset like eng mgt so will need a plug in to clear

thanks-we checked connectors under the seat and they seemed ok-will revisit.

 

as its a 1995 car I couldnt find an obd11 so couldnt see anywhefd to plug a reader into.

 

anyone got any knowledge re the 200 specifically?

Try pushing the connectors under the seats together anyway. The SRS light was forever coming on in my 45 (including coming on when some dick in a Zafira pulled RIGHT out in front of me on a NSL road and I had to do an emergency stop) because of those connectors, pushing them togther didn't even feel like there was any movement but it worked.

Or just cut / solder/ heatshrink them first as last . Fiddling about with them will put the light out for a while until one day you move the seat and hello mr srs light !

I shall make it a thing to do for one day-split apart the connectors and clean/reseat. we did push them together but nae joy

Is there no OBD socket behind the centre console? Look in behind there from the driver's footwell. Should be on a razor-sharp metal bracket if there is one. That car may just have a 3 pin breakout connector near the engine management box, in the engine bay, though.

 

 

 

Additionally, if you take off the steering column shrouds, there should be a 2 pin connector on the top side. A resistor in the 2 Ohm range plugged into it will make the light go on and off correctly, if you're stuck.

 

The Rover SRS light should go off by itself when you fix whatever the fault is - no resetting required from what I've seen. The SRS control module does not incorporate a fault code memory.

R3 FTW. Early R3 FT extra W. I replaced a lot of the shit/missing Project Driven bits on mine from a 96 216 that I bought as a breaker. Even the damn boot carpet is thicker on the early cars. My front seats rattled from day 1, so I got 200 seats, and put my covers on them.

Further investigation reveals this to be correct. It's a 3 pin breakout near the MEMS unit on this car.

2 where can i find it?

You don't reset the SRS that way. The light will behave when you fix the fault. The SRS control unit is separate, and under the passenger rear seat. These little cars like to let water into the boot. I suppose there's an outside chance that the SRS control unit has got wet. Maybe worth a look.

Yep. As I said, the SRS has no capability to store codes.

I have misled you slightly on the resistor trick - there's a bit more to it than I said. However, it still isn't too difficult. I did it on a mate's ZED ARSE some time ago as he insisted on having a shite aftermarket steering wheel. If necessary, I'll take the bits apart on my car and photograph where it goes. Let me know.

 

For future reference and for others who may read this thread:

 

MEMS location. Silver box, on its side, next to the battery. On pre-OBD compliant cars there's a wee circular 3 pin connector with what honestly looks like a black condom on it. There may be another, green connector - IIRC that one's for reprogramming the alarm.

 

OBD socket location. Behind centre console.
