Stephen picked me up as arranged in his van and we disappeared off into darkest Fife ! (for the benefit of the local shiters) as we passed through Kelty and saw signposts for Ballingry, I nervously patted the bulging envelope in my pocket. I needn't have worried as our destination was a lovely old cottage in the grounds of a country house.

Tyres were kicked, coffee was consumed, papers were signed and cash monies changed hands. I am now the proud owner of.............

actually taken on the test drive but what a great little garage, a very nice lady asks "how much love ?" and does all of the hard work for you :)

so yes, I bought a 'mummy truck' - first impressions are favourable, it's comfortable, easy to drive and no slouch on the motorway back to edinburgh. at 67000 miles, it's barely run in but it does have a few battle scars - I took it to the local car wash on the way home and it's come up a treat.

thanks all for watching, it certainly livened up the journey :)

Nice.

Last time I had anything to do with one of them was helping two women and a couple of kids out of one whilst it's Diesel engine lunched its self on its oil and eventually set its self on fire.

Had to help as they were sat in it while it revved its tits off !!

Posted

hopefully shouldn't be an issue as this one is an omgmpg petrol - but as its a jdm-yo-vtec I'll be revving the tits off it anyway :)

it needs a good service, I'm just having a poke around under the bonnet and it hasn't been touched for a while - I feel a trip to europarts coming on for tomorrow

Good cars they are .

Points of note , handbrake cable adjustment is under the front passenger seat ( obv should be adjusted in the drums first)

They drink a bit of oil , this is normal .

A squeal on full lock is the rear diff clutch . A couple of flushes with the right dps fluid fixes em

Valve clearances are important and usually not done by garages

Looks a nice motor, enjoyed the thread. Are you still alive after the Greigs lunch?

when I first met mrs gm, she was a student and had a part time job working in greggs. she still enjoys telling anyone who will listen about the 'fat bastard who came in one day and bought FOUR steak bakes' - I swear they weren't all for me !

I've been shopping - true to form, euro parts tried to give me the wrong air filter, fortunately I noticed before leaving the store :)

Always fancied one of those - really doesn't look like a 13 year old car.

The way our summer's been you're right to get ready for the OMGSNOWCHAOS early.

Posted

as I'm so well prepared, you can relax, safe in the knowledge that winter will be a mild one again ! four years in a row I've bought winter tyres and not needed them :)

anyhoo, the service history with the car could be best described as 'vague' - no evidence of anything in recent years so I was keen to get a look and see what state it is in.

so we'll start with the air filter :

not bad, probably not been in for too long.

ok, so how about the plugs ?

post-4462-0-02435000-1434553971_thumb.jpg

hmm, been a while for them I think.

next up, the pollen filters :

yuk, these might be as old as the car (still, look at all of the crap they have caught, I wouldn't want to breathe that)

so the last job for today was the oil, let's see what state that is in ?

long overdue by the looks of it (this is a petrol, not a dirty diesel remember)

it's running much better now, still a little rattley on startup so i'll need to look at those valve clearances. more bits should be arriving from ebay tomorrow, I'll update as and when :)

4wd fail - I'd seen that before - the new ones have all manner of electronic rubbish to control the 4wd system, which blatantly doesn't work. the old ones (like wot I've got) run a dual pump system, as long as the fluid is good, there's not much to go wrong (bugger, something else to change now)
