Shiter advice needed, squeaking from rear...

Can any of you knowledgeable lot tell me why after driving my Alfa 156 for an hour or more and particularly when I've been on the motorway there is a squeaking noise from the back? I'm thinking brakes and possibly the calipers. I'll have a look at the weekend but just wanted to know what to look for. Ta very much.

I'm assuming it does it when you brake? Possibly sort it stripping pads out regreasing backs of pads and cleaning sliders.

It does it when coasting and stops when I apply the brakes.

A constant squeaking I take it? Do the rear wheels feel hot to the touch after a long run? As above, could be everything needs lubing up again, but seized sliders (usually behind tiny rubber boots, often ripped) or pistons could cause it. If the squeaking stops when you apply the brake, I'd be thinking something along those lines. Seized sliders tend to cause very uneven pad wear.

It mainly does it after a few miles coming off the motorway and then stops when I'm driving at slower speeds so I'm thinking it is when they get hot. I think I'll just strip them down and grease the sliders as you suggest. I'll also check how hot the wheels get.
