drum Posted May 6, 2015 Posted May 6, 2015 Possible Perth - Inverness avoiding A9 speed cameras. Takes you over the mountains including Cockbridge -Tomintoul and barely a speed camera.
Richard Posted May 6, 2015 Posted May 6, 2015 It's a little over an hour extra, worth it if you have the time though. I'd definitely go home that way.
Guest Lord Sward Posted May 6, 2015 Posted May 6, 2015 Doesn`t soud much fun apart from the Scottish part I've just drove from Durham to Skye via Glencoe and back via Perth. The roads were appalling.
Luxxo Waftybarger Posted May 6, 2015 Posted May 6, 2015 Done it a few times. I'm also from near lands end but love surfing off Orkney so do the whole lot plus ferry to Kirkwall then up to Ronaldsay time permitting. Done Kirkwall to Sennen few times in a day. Going south is bollocks, north is far more exciting because the scenery gets better. West Cornwall is a rat run/ theme park for Germans these days. Also better fuel economy going north (guessing that is of interest given your choice of wheels) because our prevailing wind from south west is behind you. Only tip on where to go I could give is avoid Lands End and John O Groats they are both shitholes. Dungeness to Port of Ness is much more interesting.

I've just drove from Durham to Skye via Glencoe and back via Perth. The roads were appalling. Western scotland is probably my favourite part of the world. kately there are signs everywhere, even in the remote bits telling you to wear seatbelts, don`t drink drive, etc. Don`t remember roads being worse than anywhere else, but Welsh ones always best
Richard Posted May 7, 2015 Posted May 7, 2015 The A87 is in a dreadful state, although I believe it's getting sorted out now. This trip won't go anywhere near there though.
twitcherman Posted May 7, 2015 Posted May 7, 2015 I think describing Land's End as a shithole is a bit harsh. Then again, I lived in Keighley for 15 years, so my frame of reference is probably a bit different... Twiggy 1

Sticks out further west than lands end anyway.
