Traction was the issue going up into the field.

Because short wheel base?

No, he was trying to accelerate that rig up a steep, grassy field!

Sorry solid, don't sound too promising on the rover front. I'm still weighing up the options but pop top vans are looking the way forward.

My dad was a bit of a hero in this respect.  When I was a small child he towed a caravan to the south of France and back using his 850cc Renault 4.

He only did it once though, as he traded it for a Saab 95 and bought a bigger caravan.

I have some embarrassing memory's of having to jump out a fully laden mini van while crawling up a hill and pushing the thing like a madman, even as a lanky spotty 13 year old I knew a mini would struggle with a 10x6 twin axle trailer.

I've got a circa 1967 Chateau Mobile trailer tent. I towed it to Winchester and back behind my A35.

It wasn't too bad, really. Not as slow as I was expecting. The main difference between towing with that and the Somerset is that when the trailer goes over bumps, you really feel it jerking the A35, while the Somerset is a lot more comfortable towing, unless it's up steep hills....then not so much.

I haven't towed it behind the Victor yet. I'd probably forget it was there!

Not promising at all but to be honest if it was still alive, and for sale I probably couldn't afford it now,a nice 827si manual in the best colour would be out of my league at the moment.
