Choices, choices, choices

Choices, choices, choices. Always choices.

  1. 1. Given the choice, which of these 3 cars would be the car of choice for an old farty git with a dodgy back and legs.

    • 2002 Rover 45 1.8 auto with all the bells and whistles. Nice colour. Low miles, history and one lady owner. Seller is abrupt.
      11
    • MG ZT - 2.5 V6 auto, decent miles, good service history including belts. Good colour. Seller seems friendly enough.

    • 1999 Rover 75, auto, decent miles, service history, not sure about belts. Scuff to rear bumper. Friendly private seller.

The 45 - I would give that a wide birth if the seller cannot answer simple straighforward questions.

The 75 - This is a 2001 car, or 1999? If its the one I looked at yesterday then I would probably hold fire, it looks a little rough and to be honest 75's are so cheap now you may aswell wait and find a tidy one hopefully with the belts done for only a few quid more.

The ZT - Looks the best bet, seems to have good S/History with belts and brakes done recently, a nice colour and a genuwine lookin motor.

PM me your rough budget Ken and I will have a scout around the 75/ZT forums.

I did look at the HRV to be honest and the Multipla but half decent one's were out of my reach. That red HRV for example.

Cocking zero rated bidder is bumping up the bids. Bastrad.

Ah the old ebay favourite, Shill bidding. Thats probably his mate/mum/nan/sister bidding then...

Could always recalculate my bidding limit by a couple of quid so they win.

Before the manual v auto thing. I bid on a ZT estate. It was always going to be cheap, it was a 'mates car and I'm selling it for him', needs a new exhaust, yadda yadda. Got to to x amount after being pushed there by a zero. I withdrew my bids as I knew what was going on and entered an amount that left the zero the winning bid. I knew what would happen.

Sure enough along came a 2nd chance offer. I ignored, especially so as the auto thing became a need. Tempted to do the same here to be honest. Might be a bit naughty but I am getting the same vibe.

I'd try & find a ZT, find my V8 comfy, not stiff at all.

I need comfort for my back, found the seats very supportive.

Garage who works on my ZT V8 have a 2.5 v6 Estate For Sale in great nick, not sure if its a Auto, but reckon it'd be good value. Garage owner is a MG nut too!

A ZT would be fab but I'd settle for a 75 now without too much fuss. I should have kept the blue Connie but there you go. No point crying over spilt transmission fluid, besides it has an excellent home now.

That does look like a good one and not that far away. I will see how the bidding goes for the blue one first.

I'm a bit late to this, but is the ZT ride really that bad? I don't remember there ever being any criticism of it in the original press reports. I can't imagine it's Audi S-Line or BMW runflat harsh ,but presumably swopping the 18" rims for smaller ones off a 75 would soften it up.

The 75/ZT has always been a bit too small for me, so unless there are any LWB V8's floating around, preferably an estate I'd rather have an 800 fastback.

Never too late.

Size-wise they're ok. No issues getting in and out of the blue one that I had, my mate's ZT or indeed the former 45.

I wish Jags weren't so low, nice wide doors but too damn low.

The Rover 45 went for £510.

Yes :)

The search continues........ I would like something Rover orientated. It's just a case of finding something that I can slide under the 'classic' insurance radar like I did with the Beetle and the MGF - something that has a bit of character maybe.

Who'd have thought it so hard? The 'automatic' aspect does limit choices but that is life.

Feck. The garage based red 75 has been sold. Arse, feck, arse.

Just been reading your thread. Has the auction for the ZT finished yet?

Posted

It did. It went for just over 700 quid.

I didn't buy it.

I have bought something though.

I bought the blue 75 for ......................... £340. I haz pleased face.

Nice one Ken, welcome back to Rover 75 Connoisseur ownership, the choice of the discerning gentleman,  even though I also own one  ;)

The optional extra walnut steering wheel alone is worth a few quid.

You may even enjoy the ride of this one more, the 15" Crowns suit these cars far better than those 17" Meteors, which I chucked within a week of ownership. It now rides like the magic carpet  8)

Am looking forward to this. The ZT would have been ace but I am happy with what I have.

Now just the Toledo to sort out and then I'll let the dust settle before looking at the Amazon and conversion options.

Thanks again to all with the positive and supportive comments, you are all ace.

Piccies and a collection thread to follow as soon as.

Planetary alignment, wind direction and speed all being well, saturday evening mate.

Insurance sorted tomorrow, VED DD and so on to be sorted. I'll have to train it over to wherever the hell it is. Ah yes, West Drayton in Middle Essex, sorry, Middlesex.
