Todays haul o' shite

There's a garage down the road from me that just sells cheap second hand motors now but it used to be our local Renault dealers main workshop until about 8 or 9 years ago. I went in recently and had a chat with the bloke who owns the place and it turns out that when Renault moved they left behind most of their stock and loads of equipment which is all still there! So far a bunch of new old stock parts has been aquired as well as a massive load of service manuals and technical literature which I'm currently sorting through.

I managed to get this awesome illuminated sign off the side of the building yesterday evening (£20!)...

..and today I went and did a deal to buy all the special tools and equipment from there. There are six racks of Renault tools like these plus a massive load of older loose special tools packed away in boxes. They were a Renault dealer from 1962 onward so much of it will be quite old I'd think...

I'm seriously chuffed to get my hands on this HPA alignment kit. It does camber, caster, KPI and toe and came with the rack, instructions and calibration tools...

Best of all, I scored a couple of diagnostics machines. A Crypton Motorscope from about 1985 which appears to work fine and a proper Renault Souriau system which is untested as yet as the vert hold needs adjusting on the display. That seems to be of a similar vintage judging by the presence of a 5.25" floppy dic drive! Both came with the instruction books and all the leads and attachments and I've got all of the diagnostic data books to go with the Renault machine. The Renault machine comes with all the dedicated Renault connectors but thankfully, also a universal one so it can be used on other makes. It has a CO meter as well which will be well handy. It'll be a great weapon for my workshop if I can get it going (or a nice ornament if I can't). He only wanted £30 each for them so I figured it was worth a go!

There's still a bunch more old stock to have a gander at and the old frontage from the dealership is lying broken in a back shed there. I might have to rescue it anyway as he didn't want owt for it...

All in all a good days scavenging 8)

Nice work!! Sounds like you'll have a full-on old style workshop for peanuts, the best I ever did was find a no-brand adjustable spanner in the gutter. I imagine the Pony was very rapid with all that in the back!

The Pony does have it's uses, although doing anything quickly isn't one of them. 60mph is really giving it some! I have to make sure I start it everyday at the moment as if I leave it for more than two days it won't go and needs some fuel poured down the carb to bring it to life. I think the valves in the fuel pump might not seal all that well. I had to rope a pretty big ladder to it yesterday to go get that sign  Looked like some kind of third world fire engine..

I remember some of those bits of equipment hanging up on that wall, the garage I used to work at in the80's did alot of Renaults, as regards the Souriau diagnostics unit ,I have the Citroen one (in red) still works ok especially the c o tester

Great score there....pic of the loaded up pony is superb.

Great stuff. You'd have been OK if you'd broken down like this on the way home....

as you could have knocked on the nearest house and asked if you could borrow an extension lead to plug it all in and find out the cause :D

Just out of interest, does your one have the floppy disc drive at the bottom like on mine? I'm guessing it's an add on as the instruction book doesn't mention it at all.

Seth, I truly believe Ed would too! A great score certainly.Fairly serious deep dish action on the Pony's wheels!

LOL! I'd love to pull a stunt like that just to see the reaction  One of the bonuses with the Pony is the Ford stud pattern so fat wheels are not a problem. They're 8x13's on the back...I just wish I could get some tyres that fitted them a bit better like 215/50's but they're a bit pricey.I forgot to mention that the guy who owns the place I got this crap has a Clio V6 which he was busy repairing in his workshop after some toerags broke in and damaged it. There was a really amazingly solid Dolomite 1850 abandoned round the back. Only had 34k on the clock too. I'll snap some pics when I go back.

No mate yours must be newer than mine, but I think I might have some instruction books somewhere I'll have a look on monday and let you know.

Cheers, that'd be great if you could. I expect there may have been an additional book for mine that's gone missing.

Fantastic haul Ed - those special tools will save a lot of cussin'!!

If there's any R30 specific tools I'll let you know!

Brilliant haul there! I managed to get one of those Renault signs off ebay last year although it is a bit tatty.Special tools should be very useful, if theres anything R4 specific you don't want or still there then I'd be quite interested  I'm guessing anything R11 wise you'll be keeping, but if you're not... !

WOW! I am so massively jealous, that lot would look so good in the Dungeon!

Brilliant haul there, bet you are well chuffed!!Like Mr Hirst, the best I found was a pair of rusty mole grips wedged on the chassis of an old Ford Cargo. I still use them today though lol!

A true treasure trove there!Anything for R's 9 or 14?? :D

I'm not sure about parts. I'll have a look through what's left of the stock there but it looks to be mostly 90's stuff. There may be some 80's parts amongst it all. I have got factory service manuals for both models.. just the mechanical book for the 9 but both mechanical and body for the 14. It's going to be a major task going through all the special tools and identifying them so that won't get done for a couple of weeks at least now but I'll let you know what there is when I do.
