This fine wee motor car is still here and since this is not a lottery lets add a bit of lottery madness shall we.

Tonight's lottery bonus ball was the number 33 so lets deduct that from the sale price of £199.99

now for sale at £166.99

And tonight's bonus ball was 28 I think so new price is.   £138.99

Do any of the k fans on here have a spare camshaft sensor I could try on this car,

I'm assuming this is the main stumbling block that's putting people off.

An update since its been a rather busy week and the mg did finally sell for a disgraceful 80 bar :-(  (note to self stay well clear of mg )

First purchase of the week was this old shogey which the owner just couldn't be arsed to pay the extortionate tax cost any more, so a derisory offer was made and then promptly accepted then a simple drive home and dump in the ever crowded drive,

I think that all this needs is a wash and one of the bumper corners re bolted then its ready for omg winter premium sale.

purchase number two this week which ( i suppose cant really be called a purchase as it was free) is this prime lawnmower engined colt.

It starts first turn but runs with a miss which was why it was free, so some  investigation to follow.

So this fine afternoon i decided to pop back over to the yard to see what gives, look at the power lurking under this bonnet it would shame any Kubota in a cut off,

post-3747-0-33159300-1448230648_thumb.jpg

off with the single coils and whipped out the plugs for inspection, which was a bit tight as the long extension would fit in and the short was to short, these things are sent to try us.

post-3747-0-89987300-1448230807_thumb.jpg

so here's the plugs and strangely there's one odd plug I wonder if that's the problem?

post-3747-0-97736700-1448231204_thumb.jpg

compression tester connected to each cylinder one by one and the results are in after some frantic starter motor action.

cylinder one,

post-3747-0-78584100-1448230985_thumb.jpg

cylinder two,

post-3747-0-56889600-1448231020_thumb.jpg

cylinder three.

post-3747-0-49858500-1448231061_thumb.jpg

so that will be the problem then not the plugs after all.

so since compresion is usually better when warm i decided to warm the car up and 5 minutes of this saw the temp shoot up and ready for another test.  these little engines sound so sweet when revved even when poorly,

post-3747-0-95687100-1448231366_thumb.jpg

and after removing the plugs again out came the tester with much improved compression in number one and two,post-3747-0-14548400-1448231393_thumb.jpg

since number three still shows no compression I guess I don't have to now clean these seats so that's one up side.

post-3747-0-93715600-1448231448_thumb.jpg

The colt has long mot and 4 new tyres so I guess I may just break it as not sure its worth the expense and time to rebuild the engine.

Posted

Well to add insult to injury the damn shogun wouldn't start this morning either, I did wonder why the temp gauge was already half way up when I drove it away.

Put a drop of oil in cylinder 3 and redo the compression test. If it's better, strip the car. If it's the same, it's a cylinder head problem and it's easier to fix. Your call.

I think there is something wrong with those readings, the compression tester or something. Petrol won't bother igniting at less than about 90psi IIRC so how it that even running?

As TatBobu says, put a drop or two of oil in cylinder 3 and redo the compression test.

I called a few breakers today and for the princely sum of £160 to £200 I can have a whole engine, just need to have a search to see what these cars are worth.

The compression tester was showing 125 on the Vauxhall xe engine so its not the tetster at fault.

I decided to have a quick look and see why this darn shogun did not want to start so out with the tester,

the engine bay is really quite clean and certainly looks like its a true 70k miler.

post-3747-0-41955500-1448308444_thumb.jpg

first  to check there is power at the heater plugs, so connect live to the heater plug wire and earth to the engine and on with the ignition, the results are.

post-3747-0-96042900-1448308769_thumb.jpg

definitely not the relay so now to check the heater plugs,

first job to undo the small nuts on the heater plugs and thanks to a clever design the connecting bar is slotted so no dropping tiny nuts down into the engine,

post-3747-0-05474700-1448308728_thumb.jpg

out with the tester again and connected the live to the positive on the battery and earth it out onto the top of each heater plug,

post-3747-0-13470400-1448309067_thumb.jpg

number one came in at,

post-3747-0-55259300-1448309181_thumb.jpg

number two 7.85

number three 12.85

number four 6.36

so that's why it doesn't want to start as only one heater plug working so one set of heater plugs ordered and that should be that.

They must be one of the last indirect injection diesels, very much in need of healthy glow plugs even in the middle of the summer.

How much is road tax and how much are these going for now? I've driven a Mitsubishi Challenger and quite liked it...

glow plugs are supposed to be delivered tomorrow, I'm sure that is the problem as it runs very well once started.

the seller said it was 500 or so to tax and I managed to snatch it for a quite reasonable £900 complete with the road tyres, not sure advertising it with those mud tyres is a good idea as it puts people off.

I have been offered £180 for the tyres already.

It's expensive but it's not as much as £500 a year. Looks like a good buy!

Those colts sell for a round a grand I dunno if that makes it worth it or not?

I had a 1.5 one and it was a really good little car.

My first 406 was like that, one working, one kind-of, two not even slightly.

Fired up reasonably in warm weather but first cold snap, forget it, four new please.

But £505 p/a VED? (Loud crack as jaw hits the floor). I want a working car and more for that sum. Feckin' outrageous.

Here at crazy G's we have just taken delivery of this piece of automotive heaven,

Another junker saved from certain doom so would anyone like to take this prime shite on?

It starts it drives ish and its shite,

it is moted for some time in the future and its shite,

everything seems to work on it and its shite,

its clean and straight and its shite,

it has some fancy shmancy beatbox that plays toons and its shite,

the owner said it is using water and its shite,

it apparently likes to use all of the road and yes you've guessed its a pile of shite.

I've got a customer that wants a steering rack for a colt if it's in good condition

yup the colt drives and steers as it should,

Posted

How much would you want for the rack? I think his is an 06, it's an electric rack on his, the motor sits above the osf arb bush from memory.

The bushes have gone sloppy and it wanders about

Posted

I could pop over to the yard and take some pics of the rack to compare it if you like.

I've just taken this wee corsa for a hurle and the owner was telling many truths.

It pulls alright but that's about it,

It handles like a drunken sailor and when I brake it shoots left then when the brakes are released it shoots right, I really can't understand how a mother of two can drive a car in such a state.

Posted

So what's wrong with the corsa? Tons of suspension needed? Breaks, a steering rack or just someone stupid like the tracking?
