Buying a car that needs a VIC check?

Got the opportunity to purchase a fine* vehicle that's been off the road for a few years, it's been written off and needs a VIC check to get back on the road.

I've read the extremely helpful* Doovla site which says the car needs an MOT. Am I right in saying I'll be able to get it MOT'd OK-I know I can't apply for a V5 until it's VIC checked.

Buy it

Fix it up for MOT

Get it through

Get VIC check

Get V5?

Cheers

Good stuff, wouldn't want to fork out for a VIC check if it wasn't going to pass an MOT. Will report back!

I think they are doing away with the VIC very soon so should be getting easier

Should I beat the rush and buy up all the insurance write offs if the VIC is ending or will they all then need an engineer's inspection?

VIC was designed to stop the worst ringing, but most thieves are too clever to get caught.

An insurance company may ask for an engineers report as a condition of insuring any car, but 99.999987% of the time, will probably believe that if it passes an MOT it's road worthy.  In the same way that some agree value policies on classics require an owners club report and some require 5 grainy pictures.

I don't want to state the obvious but doing your own VIC check ie making sure all the numbers are correct might not be a bad idea.

Yeah true, but the only thing i never really got my head round was, why are commercial vehicles exempt from this? Straight forward doing a VIC check, nothing to worry about.
