Heep's Canadian Spots - Updated April 03

That house is just great.

There's really nothing like that left here now, certainly not round these parts. Certain parts of 'the burbs' in london/herts you find the odd 'mad cat lady' type house, but they never last that long as generally everything on a plot big enough to squeeze 8 'executive' homes on is going to get snapped up fast, even in these [slightly less] depressed days.

That reminds me, I have a collection of NB plates exactly like this somewhere. My Cousin would bring a few over each time he visited. I've also got an allegedly really really old Rhode Island one, that, from what I can remember, has black digits on a white background. I wanted to paint it up but he told me not to as it might be valuable or something??

I really like that Ford Maverick!

Posted

Thanks all. I'm just happy to have like minds to share this stuff with!

Here's a rear shot of that Maverick. It was at a local car show at which I shot all the cars, but of course 99% of them are not really Autoshite material :-)

Posted Image

Iain: I think the Maverick is Hampton-based, I see it around here from time to time. Your family may know of it.

Alright, massive update here, 125 photos! I'll start off with some Canadian spots, then move on to my European spots. I got married on the 4th and our honeymoon started in France, then went to the UK - so most of these spots are from either place.

But anyways, back in Canada...

Then back in Canada this past weekend went to a car show in Prince Edward Island, I won't post cars from the show but here's some I saw on the way...

Green LTD

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v337/Heep/S73F0741.jpg

OK, this one was actually in the show, but made me do an excited little jig when I saw it. Many have before read about how my Mom had (a non-turbo) one of these when I was a tot and how I remember it fondly, but now I never, ever see them anymore. I saw one a few months back that made me jump for joy, but this one was in fantastic condition too, and was the even more rare (and much more quick) Turbo version!

Wowsers! The Matra Simca Talbot place is at the very summit of Mt OMG. That is fantastic and should become a place of pilgrimage for all Autoshiteists.Brilliant selection of other stuff and congratulations on getting married :D

Posted

Are you still married after all the spotting on your 'moon? If so, congrats! Excellent pics, all of them.

Posted

She knew what she was marrying! :DActually I took about 2,800 photos on the trip so 125 shite photos is just a drop in the bucket...

Posted

Congrats on getting hitched & great spots.I think those are diplomatic numberplates on that battered W140

Posted

Wow, that must break the record for number of Horizons in a single spotting post. Top notch!

Posted

Looks like it; Dutch diplomatic cars have CD for Corps Diplomatique too.
Posted

What a brilliant trip :D That building on the left of the Beverley Panda used to be the Regal cinema and despite protests was pulled down and rebuilt a few years ago...

Posted

Excellent pics. Dead W140s are quite common in the UK now as high technical complexity and expensive spare parts means they hit 'parked up - presumed dead' status quicker than the old 70s/80s stuff. There's a deceased S reg one on the main road into Aylesbury, for example.I also saw a T reg (1999) W220 (the next generation of S class) with rust starting on the edges of the panels, don't know if this was a poor respray job or a sign that Merc quality had really hit the floor by the start of this decade.

On the N162, somewhere between Laval and Château-Gontier, on the west side of the road I think. You actually have to exit the N162 and take a small parallel road to access it. I think it was close to Laval if I recall correctly, actually if you type into Google Maps "Lotissement Artisanal, Le Rocher, 53260, France", that's my best guess as to where it was exactly.Edit: Did a look up on the number, that's exactly where it is actually...
Posted

Nice update!Sounds like an interesting trip, thanks for the pics..

Posted

Some more on the garage and what they do here including address, apparently it's well known in France; you can find pretty much anything there (except panels) new or remade by the original companies, not cheap, and no email - just phone or fax.

Posted

As I was leaving, I saw a beautiful Vedette heading towards the garage...

Posted

Congratulations on getting wed. That's some epic spotting, what a legend! The Talbot garage is ace - it looks like they closed one Friday in 1982 and left it exactly as it was!

Pontiac Phoenix. Been AGES since I last saw one. The big hatchback saloon thing never really caught on over here. These were FWD and notoriously crap.

Posted Image

Immaculate-looking Civic that's been sat on stands for at least a couple months now. No idea why. This shape is almost all gone here now from rust, strange that this one looks entirely unrusted but unusually (for an old Honda) seems to have mechanical woes? Nevertheless, I want it...

Monte Carlo

Nice Malibu

Posted Image

RHD Golf, odd, these are still plentiful here, not sure why someone bothered to import a RHD one.

Parked right beside that lovely white Civic, this '80s F-150 that also looks brand new

Crown Victoria

Nissan Stanza (aka Bluebird) hatchback! I know these were rather common in the UK, but they never were here. It seems 95% or so of these sold back in the day were 4-door saloon versions, and even those are extremely rare spots around here nowadays. I don't think I'd ever seen a hatchback one before in my life, thus, I was thrilled to see this.
