OK, I posted a bunch in my first post but here's a thread that I'll keep updated as I add more.

Here's some for today:

I used to own this very Jetta a couple years back. Absolute heap of rotting garbage. Still on the road.

A real peach this one

Incredibly shite! I love the number plate light hanging by the wire

This one is actually quite nice but 300,000+ kms. It was for sale a while back for a good price and I'm kicking myself for not buying it. Manual gearbox too.

Hard to not look like a molester with this

I love these stubby little Cadillacs:

Is the windscreen held in with tape? Impressive.

Likin' the late 70s Malibu 2 door. Great to also see that the Canadians went a bundle on the great colours M-B did on the W123 in the late 70s/early 80s. Mmm, toothpaste green.

Here's a few more from the Heep archives while I weather the winter.

First, an entirely unexpected spot. RHD too!

This one's not so shite...

...but this one is:

I think they sold approximately four of these in Canada:

I think the small length of rope is the means by which this MR2 makes its weekly move to the other side of the street.

Here's a little Canadian variation on what I expect may be an Autoshite favorite:

That 505 break looks brutal with that spare wheel arrangement, be interesting to know about its history. Dangel produced some 505 4x4 for the local markets.

But I have to say I rather like that Canadian one with those alloys.

Liking that ravaged BMW 5 - an E12 no less!and that old Toyota....Carina??

Posted

I think the Toyota is a Corona, circa 1979/80, we did get them here but I think only in tiny numbers. I am enjoying the Canadian 'Belmont'

I am enjoying the Canadian 'Belmont'

Yes, I saw my own Belmont 'variations' this year in Malta!Vauxhall Belmont to us,Opel Kadett E saloon to the Europeans besides us,Pontiac LeMans to our cousins across the pond, and Daewoo Racer saloon to our friends in the East & other markets.A true world car! Who'd have thought it such an inspiring design!

Yep, Toyota is a Corona, the rarer 5-door version too. My sister's neighbour down in the U.S. has a pristine one in light yellow, I love it.For ultra-mega-bonus points, there are two other Canadian variations of the Belmont that I need to spot some time. The car was indeed sold both here and in the U.S. as the Pontiac Lemans, but there were two other, short lived versions of it available in Canada only: The Asüna SE (GT if it's a high-sepc 3-door) and the Passport Optima.Passport was a very short lived GM Canada brand that offered only the Optima (Belmont), and some rebadged Isuzu 4x4s. Asüna was Passport's even shorter lived replacement brand that also offered a re-badged Suzuki Vitara and a re-badged Isuzu Impulse/Piazza Mk2 (the FWD one).

Those Pontiac Lemans really got around, didn't they?

Remember Stuno's spot from new Zealand?

I take it NB is New Brunswick? My folks live 20 miles from Halifax (so quite a way from you.....) where you will also spot a fine selection of old shit. On one trip I spotted an E28 BMW, a 1963 Lincoln Continental and a Rolls Spirit in the space of 30 mins. There are a huge number of shagged old Pontiac crappers on the road. A lot of the older BMW's and Mercs are European imports rather than horrid Federal US stuff.

Posted

Interesting, it has the Pontiac grille and front lamps, but bumpers are of the slimmer Euro variety and the whole back end, badges excluded, is as well.I wonder just how many variations of this car exist?

Yep, New Brunswick...I live 239 miles from Halifax. I don't get there often but in relative terms it's not all that far away. Much higher population there so many more terrible cars as well! :D

Those Pontiac Lemans are great,I can just imagine turning up in one(preferably with Rebel flags etc), at an American car show & parking between the '50s Cadillacs & the custom vans  7

Go out into the sticks and you'll find some real kwalitee. Near where my folks live, someone is using a 1975 Mustang 11 as a rockery. Probably the best thing, but it's the 2 door saloon version, metallic blue with a white vinyl roof. You can bet there is a Pinto engine under the hood as well.

I look forward to watching this thread progress! While that Corona is super-rare here, we never got them in anything other than well-specced 5dr hatch flavour so in that sense they're common here...

Nice to see some more Canadian shite, a very good friend of mine has a huge breakers yard in Antigonish. He keeps telling me how much euro type shite he keeps getting in, I must get some pictures of it :):)

Yes, please do!The west coast of Canada has thousands of Japanese imports, while the east coast has several European imports. All about geography...

Hey those Vauxhall Bell-end derived pontiacs look really shite!! Thought that sort of stuff would be far too small for the American/Canadian market to be honest.

Did the other ones around the world have the same 'family-II' engines as European models? I had a couple of that 'style' of Astra, both 1600 Estates, I found them to be very reliable and robust even when getting on a bit. Also nice to drive. Comfy!

I think the Daewoos have a Holden variation on the Family 2, 1.5 and 1.8 flavas. The Belmont GLSi I had a few years back was a lorra fun, the 1800 injected Family 2 can be pretty lively in a light car with crap tyres.

I wonder if this is my Dad's first car? He had a baby blue over white vinyl V8 1977 Camaro, just like this. Need to question the owner sometime soon.
