Ah, I remember them, they were basically MZ's IIRC?

Off topic a bit, but no, Simson were a completely different factory to MZ. Simson started in Suhl in the 1800's and made allsorts of metal objects (including rather smart looking cars). After the war their role in the DDR was to make mopeds. MZ were in Zschopau and were/are a continuation of DKW, their job was to make bigger (>=125CC) bikes.

 

Inevitabley there is some resemblance between the two due to using the same component suppliers, design philosophy etc.
