Rover P6 3500 brake servo seriously needed

A long shot, but weirder things turned up on Autoshite.

I'm asking on behalf of Mr Conelrad, who admirably jumped onto P6 V8 ownership last year, i.e. October 1986.

There is basically nothing wrong with the bloody car, apart from no brakes due to said servo.

The existing servo and a not inconsiderable amount of dosh was sent off for it to be rebuilt early November,

it's been near 3 months (can't believe it's 1987 already), and he has got nothing but excuses and empty promises since.

The car has been sitting at a local garage all this time, but it was mentioned, that it is in the way now.

No suitable storage is available other than the street (due to knob van, sigh). But for this, gleefully unjustified taxation is required.

What's in the way of said taxation is a valid MoT, and what's in the way of said MoT, is a functional brake servo.

Mr Conelrad has voiced intention to part with the car because of this, since he doesn't want it to be in the way of anybody.

I don't want this to happen. Hence I hope, the urgency is understood.

A functional brake servo could be bought, or even borrowed and returned, when the rebuilt unit finally becomes available.

My philosophy of brakes being vastly overrated neither impressed him, nor the MoT tester, despite I'm always right.

Please help!

Will travel.

No promises, but I'll have a look amongst my remaining pile of p6 bits.

Thanks, Oman! Also thanks to Junkman for starting the thread, for some reason it never occurred to me to ask on here.

My enthusiasm for this car is ebbing away ever faster. I despise the idea of it being in anyone's way, either at the (already too patient) garage or as part of an obstacle course for Junkman's wheelie bins. If it is not lumbering into an MOT test bay by Valentine's day, there's going to be a massacre.

I'm coming round to it. They do special MOTs for vehicles with no lights, so why can't I get a special 'no brakes' MOT if I promise to always leave a FOUR second gap or FOUR chevrons between me and the car in front? Nanny state.

Have you a picture of the servo?

It's probably a girling powerstop

Try rimmer bros or moss europe

If it's a Powerstop, doesn't that imply that it was plumbed into an existing system without a servo and the brakes would probably be adequate without it?

I once saw two of them in a mk1 Scirocco in the scrappies, it was bluddy miles from home and I had no tools :(

if its a 60s/70s rover, surely the same servo is used on at least half the BL range?

Not in the case of the p6, remote mounted jobby on them

I think MGB's have a remote servo. I used one when I couldn't get a pukka one for my 1800, found one on the bay for £20

Thanks everyone, I have a servo in the post. Great fun buying an old used servo after shelling out a load of cash to have the existing one rebuilt.

Unfortunately, the P6 servos are specific and even not interchangeable between the 4 cylinder and V8 cars.

The P6 was conceived when Rover was still proudly un-BL, hence it only shares very few components with BL products.

This remained unchanged throughout its production, much to the dismay of today's owners.

I'm glad you found one, Mr Conelrad.

And many thanks to all of you who tried to help!

I think I know what I will put on a shelve down in the dungeon as soon as I can afford it.

Glad it's sorted, there's probably very valid reason for it, but it does seem very BL of them to not have rationalised these components in some way, remote or not.

Glad you found one cos I haven't got one. need anything else? I've Got loads of panels and some tinted screens

Would they have rationalised them, they'd be slagged for that now.

No matter what whoever did when, if it was even only remotely connected to BL, there would be slaggage.

Panels, eh? I am in need of a few panels (I'm missing the rear valance and sill covers) but they're really low priority until the car is roadworthy.

They are high priority.

What exactly is there and in what condition?

I might do a clean sweep if the answer and price appeals...

In the shed I could see doors, front and rear wings, couple of v8 front valances, I think there's one new sill cover, rear deck panel, what looks like a v8 water pump, it's best if I drag them out of the shed and take some pics so you can see the condition. I'll get that done on the weekend and report back.

What's the specificnessnessness of the p6 fitment? Is the vacuum lower on a p6?

Hi, larger diameter than the 4 pot one, mounting studs on different side to the P5b item which

is same size. In short they are a one off fitment.
