Help...Calling any ZX heater fans

My diesel powered ZX has a non-fanning heater fan, I know "they all do that sir" but after a look at the French wiring diagram and poking about under/behind/in/on/through the dash/glovebox/heatermotor/switxches can anyone explain the route the electricity should take from the battery to the fan and where the usual fault is?  Thanking you very many.

Ahhh. As it is French, the route the electricity takes could be anywhere from the bonnet catch to the boot lock, back again via Paris or any main dealer in between. Good luck! As to where the fault lies, probably in the car somewhere.

I was going to say it arrives by Calais...

My wiring diagrams don't go back that far but as it's PSA and completely dead (rather than full tilt only) the fault's probably the ignition switch.

I seem to remember from my Xantia days, non functioning heater motor could be ign switch. Full tilt was always failure of the Darlington pair transistors. Latter was easy fix.

However, I know nothing of ZX's or their wiring.

Good luck. Electrical faults can be a major pain in the bahooky.

All the wiring for mine was hanging down so I pushed it back up into the foot well, it still works...

Can scan the relevant pages of the hbol if it helps later?

When my heater fan stopped working on my 1994 1.9D Avantage it turned out to be the heat fuse with the speed control coils in the air intake, I got to it by removing the wipers and the plastic cover under the windscreen from outside the car. The part was only 67p from Maplin and the first time I tried to soldier it in but blew it so I had to crimp one in.

When my ZX fan packed up, it was still getting live to the motor. To sort it, remove part of bottom of glovebox, drop motor out and remove brushes. Give the ends a wipe over, then liberally squirt the rest of the motor parts with electrical contact cleaner to remove the years of carbon, dust and despair that has built up. A bit of emery action here and there didn't go amiss either. Refit as reverse of removal, and Robert will, hopefully, be your mother's brother.

Sounds like the same way to bring a dead hoover motor back to life sometimes!

Worked on my washing machine, too!

Well thanks a lot, there goes my Sunday which had "Weatherspoons" pencilled in.

Should only take you an hour or so. Do it in the morning, go to 'Spoons in the afternoon. Win-win.
