Bicester Heritage Sunday Brunch Scramble

Recommended Posts

Twas a cold and frosty morning at RAF Bicester but that didn't stop the classics turning out for another of Bicester Heritage's Sunday Brunch Scrambles. Plenty of very exotic and pricey motors but some more down-to-earth stuff too.

A nice pair of Bristols

My perfect car. I used to see its sister 2EXP around here a lot but I'd never seen 1EXP before.

Silver coupe 'BAE' looks like a 60s Renault Alpine, or a Matra Djet ?

Anyone know what this is?

OMG, it's a very early Matra Djet, badged as a "Rene Bonnet Djet" !!! I didn't know there were any of those in the UK !

That's exactly what it is. It's RHD and appears to have been here from new!

Bristols are beautiful things (missus) but that series IV always makes me think Mrs Crook's oven grille was purloined in the name of experimentation.   Split Minor pickup is an uncommon beast too.   Proper British ratluk would be better though - handpainted in Dulux bathroom blue with a Michelin man on the roof.   I like the venue too - keep expecting to see Tony Selby frogmarched round the corner of those brick huts!    Bonnet Djet is indeed a rarity - I suppose it could conceivably have been converted to RHD but that Bristol reg. is a later issue I think?

I had no idea that this was on.  The photos brought back memories - we were based there in 1959-60 when our 1933 Austin 7 was regarded as autoshite.  On dad's promotion, he upgraded to a 1954 Hillman Minx which attracted fewer snears.  I've always liked Bristols, although I'm not a tit man.  Avantis are a bit weird.  I picked up a brochure for them at a Seattle motor show in the 1990s.  Never seen a Djet. Looks quite pretty.
