Guest Breadvan72 Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 This is a tentative enquiry as I don't yet know whether I need a new engine for my jalope, but if I do I may be able to get one from a bloke in Aberdeen, which I understand to be located in the mysterious land of Scotlandlandshireland, which I gather from this forum is a branch of Sweden. Or something. If I end up buying this engine, would anyone fancy a cash money gig to wang it on a pallet and haul it down to my gaff, which is close by junction 5 of the M40 (or more probably to a garage at Watlington, about five miles off junction 6)? As an incentive for any son or daughter of Caledonia pondering making the attempt I have found out that a local butcher sells evil looking small disc shaped pies that claim to be Scotlandish, so there would be a packet of eats available for the return journey, and no need to stop for the Ginster's Buffet Bar of SHAEM. Also available: doubloons.
beko1987 Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 If only the people of Scotland drove Volvo estates, rather than ford ka's or peroduas, no room for an engine in one of those... Would be plenty of room in say a nice Volvo estate...
Guest Breadvan72 Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 I thought they all had might as well kill yerself misery spec VW Polos?
Minimad5 Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 Bargain that ^I could bring it down from Chester (If someone brought it this way) , for the outlay of fuel.Be more than £59 though
nigel bickle Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 Paisley freight will collect, on a pallet..
Petrolize Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 Paisley freight will collect, on a pallet..Have used Paisley freight before for some alloy wheels and they were very good, even if the additional charge for delivering to the Highlands was a little excessive.
cms206 Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 If it'll fit in the back of a Volvo I reckon it'd be doable, but it'd be about £250 in pez :/ If you get stuck SVM Cargo may be available.
320touring Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 Yep, reckon a courier service as mentioned would be best bet.. Aberdeen is a 300 mile round trip from here, in the 320 that would muller the 60quid mentioned above. And you'd sti need to get it to your gaff. Bonne chance avec le purchase du moteur
Richard Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 If the seller is unwilling or unable to prepare it for a courier I might be able to bring it down to my work and band it onto a pallet to be collected from there. It would have to be fitted in with a time when I'm up there working (which is quite a lot) though, I don't think I could fit it in the Volvo. The upside of that is that it wouldn't cost anything for fuel.
kinkersaab Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 Im aberdeenshire, and could certainly be available to have a courier collect it and or possibly get it from seller. if it wasnt too heavy i could also get it to kinross and pass it to another shiiter to take it further south. Who is it it? I know losts of old car type folk up this way?
mark165 Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 Another one for speedshift. Remarkably cheap and I found them very easy to deal with.
Hertz Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 I can recommend Palletline as I have used them a couple of times with no issues. They charged me £60 from Accrington to Portsmouth for an engine on a pallet. Could be a bit more for your trip so the £59 above one looks like the winner. It had to be free from all oils and liquids (they said the driver would check the dipstick on arrival but I winged it as it was bagged up) so maybe worth getting them to drain it first just in case.
