austin metro battery light

Trying to get through all the little niggles with the vdp before I throw it in for an mot. It has been stood for a while so wondering if that's part of the issue but the battery light doesn't come on with ignition on or when running. Any ideas as to why it wont illuminate? My reliants alternator diode pack was dying and light flickered at idle and came on at higher revs so I don't think its the alternator

Thanks folks

Could be as simple as the bulb blown. On some cars, they won't charge if the bulb has blown as it's the same 12v feed that 'excites' the alternator.

I was thinking that dw. Thanks for flowchart too Hillman,I like it simple like me. Next time I get over I will get multimeter across the battery.

Will get bulb checked if battery isn't charging. If it is though then it wont be such a big issue!

Easier to check the bulb first, I'd say - just earth it against the engine with the ignition on should do.

battery light has a red holder and is rated at 2w iirc

normal dash lights in white holder are 1.2w

you can use white one to test but you will prolly need more revs than idle to put light out
