VOLVO of distiction?

EDIT: Too slow.

Woohoo!! For some reason though I was thinking pug 505.

I'd quite like one of those, too, at some point... :)

It's wooden you know & warped...

..and lead, thus causing the warp as the sun moves around.

Trying to find any 505 is no mean feat nowadays. Remember my dad having a A plate auto, not sure what engine, another blue auto in a E plate, and a E reg 2.2 gti manual. The a reg had a different dash to the others and I think it had a 3 speed auto and the other was 4 speed. I could be wrong though as I was young.

Excellent bombing sir! You are clearly a man of taste and distinction, as people who drive D24 powered volvos usually are. Does it wear it's miles well?

The cherished number plate will be worth thousands as well

Van Morrison Van Halen, Van Der Valk, its perfect for any of them!!

(Registration values may be exaggerated for training purposes, Tand c's apply to all offers made in good faith and should not be taken literally, advertiseyourplateforstupidmoney.com is a subsidiary of somebody or other with loads of cash who wants even more Ltd)

Come on then - we would like the particulars of this purchase.

Winner, winner, chicken dinner!!!!!!!!! The SVM will be drooling

It (precise name to be determined) is a 1995 940 S, which means very little in the way of spec, and has covered 248,000 miles.  The previous owner replaced most of the interior from a CD model, so it has better seats than it left the factory with, and no broken trim.  It was apparently in a state when he (previous owner) bought it, as the owner before him didn't do much in the way of maintenance, did many bodged repairs (some still in evidence), and, being an antiques* dealer, wrecked the interior.  The car isn't what you'd call quick, but is fine once under way (smokes like an old loco, though), handles MUCH better than I was expecting (cornering = body roll, but the roadholding is really pretty good).  The road from here to Lincoln, which is A46 to Caistor, and then back-roads, has become my standard medium-level handling test, as it has many bends ranging from gentle to tight, and the 940 was actual fun to pilot.  The seats are ace, although not adjustable until I* wire them up to a live feed.  As they're from a CD model, they're electric, and they've not been connected up yet.

On the list of things to do:

- oil and filter change

- bottle of injector cleaner (see point above re smoking)

- air filter change

- fuel filter change (need to check if it has one...the DS caught me out like this)

- brake fluid change

- replace nearside window in boot, so that there is radio reception (a spare window came with the car)

- see when the timing belt was last done

- connect up the heater controls, as the previous-previous-owner disconnected them for some reason

- other things I have forgotten

Apparently something to do with SVM*, but I don't really capish it either.

[/poor attempt at alluding to something I don't really* understand]

I'll get me coat...

Anyroad, top bombing, wack!

A friend of mine has a 1995 GLE TD auto estate. Its performance is on par with The Volvo (2-litre petrol auto), but it sounds far more interesting :)

Another friend (In Germany) once had a 1993 GL TD manual/OD estate which he ran on vegetable oil exclusively. It took an age to start from cold, but once it was warmed up, it really shifted. It did smell like a chip shop, though!

Ahh yes... our monthly dinner meeting place offers a fried egg on just about everything for 50p. It results in daftness like getting double burgers with two fried eggs, cheese and onion rings (my preference) or Spiny Norman and his three egg on gammon spectacular.

These do actually go reasonably well once the turbo has spooled up, but they are quite possibly the laggiest turbo diesel engine I have ever experienced.  Even worse than the four-headed monster in a Rover 825.  They do sound nicer though.

That's helpful, as I thought, maybe, that the turbo on mine wasn't working properly - it takes a LOT of winding up, and seems to like to rev (although the actual amount of revs isn't clear, as the rev counter doesn't work).  Makes the turbo on the Saab seem like a rapid-response unit by comparison.

It sounds ace, though - the nicest sounding diesel (yes, I know that's not saying much) that I've heard in ages.

And once you are bored with it, you can sell it on to the SVM as well :)

Do like! Heater controls are hopeless on these, unscrew the panel under the steering wheel and deep down behind the dashboard there's a complicated plastic mechanism with a cable attached. If it's anything like mine it'll have fallen apart. I finally worked out how to reconnect everything only for it to ping apart again when I turned the heater dial.

Happy bricking!
