Austin 7 farm special

Recommended Posts

This weekend we've had our local vintage agricultural working.

A chap turned up with this Austin 7 converted into a kind of light farm tractor, it even had a second gearbox shoehorned in to give "deep reduction"!

It ran spot on and there are no plans to restore it.

Love it, love it, love it

Photo nicked from a mate...

I like it :-D

Before and just after WW2 many 'light tractors' were sold which were based on Ford and Bedford (to name a couple...) light commercial chassis. They were basically shortened lorries and were designed with the 'town corporation' and 'groundsman' market in mind. Agricultural tractors of the time were still too heavy to pull gang mowers around local parks for instance, without making a mess, so these were the alternative...

For example, this is a Ford Model Y Groundsman tractor made and sold by Allan Taylor engineering of Wandsworth.

It has been a long time since I had any real wants, that one hits the button for some reason.

Thanks for sharing MrScruff.

Amazing that things like this have survived really, thank goodness practically every farmer out there is a hoarder when it comes to mechanical things.
