Humber Hawk/ Super Snipe/ Imperial circa 1966/67.

My money is on the Super Snipe.

Twin headlamp 3 litre six pot.

I had an Imperial some years ago. Glass partition etc.

Thrupp and Maberley stretch between the doors.

Nice pimpmobile....VERY strong.

Takes time to find the fuel filler on these motors.

Behind the reflector!

The n/s/f door still carries an IMPERIAL badge. It's in such a state that the A-pillars have rusted completely away from the bulkhead... Spare parts only I'm afraid!

Glad to see the Japanese stuff was of interest, here's something else that was found on my travels:

Posted Image

Couldn't say exactly what it is; would the "GT R" badge on the grille be a red herring?

Posted Image

Another Domino - complete with keys in the boot! - aaand a superb Transit mkII lwb (the ropey mkI Tranny on the first page of this thread photographed at Xmas is still there by the way)

It's a Toyota Soarer, so why it has a Nissan Skyline GT-R badge is beyond me!Should have swiped the Domino keys, they're lovely cars!

I want to go on holiday again! Jersey just soared to number 1 on the "I want to go there on my next holiday"-list, great stuff! That old blue thing's a post-war Hurg innit?

I'd echo that comment of Michiels, what a great place for shite hunting. For some unfathomable reason I am starting to really like late Austin Metros in those funky primary colours. Good to see some original 80's Minis as well. Why do cars last longer there? - you commented that there's no MOT but most of your spots looked in good condition anyway. Are new cars comparatively expensive? or is there a high proportion of retirees perhaps, happy to trundle around in the bright yellow Metro they bought 20 years ago? I suppose low annual mileages must have something to do with it!P.S big black yank is a circa 1950 Buick.

The low mileages/high coffin-dodger count theories explanations go some way towards explaining the amount of older tin knocking about. Other factors are the restricted speeds (40mph max) and the lack of salt on roads in winter, though the sea air goes some way towards offsetting that.

New stuff's always been a tad less expensive than in the UK mainly due to VAT not being charged, but nowadays there's a one-off "Vehicle Registration Duty" payable on importation and levied according to engine size. I believe there may be an exemption for vehicles over 20 years old though.

- there's little in the way of TRUE shite (late 1970s/early 1980s Renners and Jap tat) left but there's plenty more stuff to be bagged the next time I'm over, I only really stuck to the south coast on this visit.

My last day allowed for little more than the walk to the airport, but a few more motors of interest follow:

Posted Image

The Daihatsu dealer on Jersey did well. Even managed to flog a few Sportraks in this colour

Posted Image

LOADS of Charades this shape, but then again they must have built them until well into the 1990s so that's hardly surprising. This one a little more unusual however in that it's an unmolested GTti

Posted Image

Tatty but original Sierra. Cars of this size few and far between; plenty of smaller stuff and a fair number of big BMs/Mercs/4x4s etc but traditional repmobiles never popular here.

Posted Image

At last! a mk1 Fiesta, in very nice condition too.

EDIT: link to the Charade pic updated, that's what you get for trying to do everything "blind" on dial-up! Thanks Mr RegieRomeo, what on earth were you doing up at that time in the morning???

No trouble, happy to point out others' mistakes as usual!

Err...well....sleep seems such a waste of time! 2 or 3 nights last week I didn't get to bed till 5am. Won't be long before I can no longer get away with that physically! By then not even Rocket Fuel coffee will rescue me!

I think people didn't pick up on these because you simply hit us with more pictures of shite then we could take in in such a short space of time!

I'm about to hit you all with a deluge of pictures taken in Belgium a week or so ago - nothing really spectacular, there didn't seem to be anything older than late 80s in everyday use. Feel free to point out my mistakes, I have to be able to take it if I'm gonna dish it out! :P

Any ideas...?!

Posted Image

Has a front end profile like an old Iveco Daily?

Wish I'd photographed this at Christmas - the bumpers were visible back then :D

Posted Image

R16!

Do I win?

:D

PS:

Thanks Mr RegieRomeo,

Eh-Eh, ya startin? I say, ya startin? Huh, huh? :x:wink:

Let's get the mk2 Fiesta nonsense out of the way first

Posted Image

Tidy mk3 Escy 3-dr est

Posted Image

Capri looks to have sat for a fair while

Posted Image

We discussed 4WD Sumos earlier - here's one

Posted Image

Another case of number plate worth more (although not necessarily more desirable) than the car; impeccable taste in estates all the same

Posted Image

I made mention of Space Cruiser twins before - someone must like 'em

Posted Image

This tired looking 2 door Cav nevertheless appears to be in daily use

Posted Image

Futureshite Corolla estate?

Posted Image

Super good 'tatsu pick-up

Posted Image

Dusty Harold (or is it a Vitesse?)

Posted Image

Alongside, Polo Koop

Posted Image

BX GiT

Posted Image

Next to this UK-reg Bristol (ROB33L although the car is probably newer?)

Posted Image

There's a good story behind this photo, I'll tell it after I've been down t'pub should anybody be interested enough

Off for drinkies now :)

That old blue thing's a post-war Hurg innit?

It is a HRG, effectively a rival to the contemporary MG during the 1920s, although this example built I believe in 1950. Had no idea so few were built - probably got the highest survival rate of any 20th century car model (Except for the MGB, natch, of which 500,000 were built and 600,000 survive)

The stack of ice cream van bodies? (I've already typed this tale once then lost it after pressing the wrong key) Essentially - sequence of events is:

Authorities tipped off that fleet of prehistoric CFs is in cataclysmic condition

Vehicles inspected and condemned amid allegations of VIN fraud

(same number plates spotted on two different vans working simultaneously at opposite ends of island, hehe)

Bedford bits ripped out prior to owner seeking more "modern" chassis to transplant the remainder onto (in this case mk3 Transhits)You can still buy a 99 Flake from an elderly CF though! Just as you can in many parts of Britain I s'pose. I'll aim to obtain photographic evidence this weekend, if the weather holds :)

Okay, so I went out to three parties Saturday night and got HAMMERED. Didn't have much luck with the girl hosting the last one so without a convenient bed to crash into, I decided to stay up and work off the booze by riding around to see what shite was parked up. Starting about 4.40am (!) when it was getting nicely light, nobody around at that time so uninhibitied tat-spotting. Gave up around 9am - saw so much that I'm having to split it into two sections (the next one to come later this week).

Going to have to do this in some sort of order, Photobucket's just been hit with 89 files this time round

Let's kick off with some pre facelift AXs

Posted Image

Chicago special ed

Posted Image

Scruffy GT

Posted Image

14TZX, not many of these imported. Belonged to my music teacher 15 years ago and nice to see it still about. This one had the bonnet chevron badges turned upside down from new!

Clean Astra 16v GTE, original spec except for...

Posted Image

Posted Image

Pov spec indicators! Nice.

75 quid 560SEC

Posted Image

Resting Alto

Posted Image

Suppose these must be shite nowadays, age indeterminate of course but must be an early one

Posted Image

Salmon coloured Accent sneaking in for added interest

323 wagon. When did they stop doing these?

Posted Image

Posted Image

3 door example with "Hella" style grille, in common with a surprising number of other Jersey motors

The hulk spotted last month turned out to be a...

Posted Image

Posted Image

CF chassis cab by the looks of it

Here's a marginally smarter example

Posted Image

Smart Cit C25 van

Posted Image

Snuck into the scrapyard for some cheeky Sunday photos (yard closed but no fence to rear). More to come, for now these two Volvo trucks await their fate

Yank pickup and 4x4 Tranny

Posted Image

These maybe of interest to some?

Posted Image

Posted Image

Loooooads of these Colts around, this faded example in company with a previously spotted Onion and...

Posted Image

Posted Image

this well kept Bimmer

And heres another

Posted Image

Now-rare Corollas

Posted Image

Posted Image

Lovely Cortina Ghia auto

Posted Image

Posted Image

Spot the clear indi lenses

Courier "Chairman" conversion I think its called, although my mate used the word "spaz-chariot" - I don't think you can get away with that sort of talk anymore

Posted Image

Lots of these around. This shitty one was a great advert for its company owner who use it in the course of fitting blinds

Posted Image

Like the Sumos they are tall but narrow therefore ideal for the island's many narrow lanes

This probably my spot of the YEAR so far. Big old Dat estate.

Posted Image

Posted Image

Stickers on side window betray previous use as a taxi. I believe it saw occasional use in public service till very recently  (or I may be confusing it with a white Toyota Crown estate of similar vintage if there were the two of them at one stage) it appears to be still in use and yes that is red insulation tape over most of the rear clusters :D

Another one I was after

Posted Image

Posted Image

With a bonus spot later on, top top colour

Dusty but insured Escort, this is either a genuine RS turbo minus the stripes or a very very good replica.

Posted Image

The multi-storeys are fertile shite hunting grounds although I couldn't be arsed to do more than two or three floors of each this time round :)

Not what it seems

Posted Image

Ford Festiva, does this pre-date the Mazda 121?

International tractor, someone here will like

Posted Image

Jersey absolutely crawling with old tractors, especially for boat-twoing duties in the bays, but I wasn't going after them this time - not my specialist subject

Sad looking Justy

Posted Image

Spoke to the owner, he still uses it and won't sell!

Badly tarted up MR2, bears all the hallmarks of modifying by the island's Portuguese community

Posted Image

How's that for stereotyping :) True though

Tarp challenge

Posted Image

I know not what it is but do have the J-number

Just look at the state of this 800 mk1 fastback

Posted Image

This Honda version lasting better

Posted Image

Till I found the big Dat wagon, this was top spot

Posted Image

Y10 Fila special edition

The yellow Metro seen in May, still for sale, down from 1250 to 995 of your finest Channel Island pound notes :)

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

With stylish but tatty Advantage and later model L version for good measure, as stated before I'm not going after Metros willy-nilly like I am with the mk2 Festers (see later)

More standard Minis

Posted Image

Posted Image

The latter an automatic still bearing the window sticker and number plates of a long, long defunct secondary A-R dealer

Mid 1980s Mitsi pick-up truck, now dormant

Posted Image

Another pic of last month's Sapporo find to show just how horrendously bad it really is

Posted Image

Pretty ugly Mk3 Grandad

Posted Image

Early Rangey

Posted Image

Been off the road so long that it still displays a Jersey TAX DISC, which were phased out at the end of '93

Very very well cared for, early 2-door Nova

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

and later 5-door, like the Metros/Fiestas these were on the 1980s hire fleets so plenty still kicking about

Pink Panda

Posted Image

(another probable former summer hire motor)

The only sort of roofrack that's acceptable on a Dub (to my mind)

Posted Image

Prairie with chair-lift conversion

Posted Image

Straight Renner 11

Posted Image

One of two similar R25s I saw

Posted Image

Beating the Y10 into third place for fave spot, this povo spec mk1 R5, 5-door

Posted Image

keeping another Sumo company :D

How much rot!!!

Posted Image

Original wheeltrims, though, respect

Me likey

Posted Image

These more common on Jersey than elsewhere

Fairly elderly Sherpa

Posted Image

ShiteAce

Posted Image

Simmy

Posted Image

Soobah estate

Posted Image

XM looks inactive

Posted Image

A few Twingos have made it across the 20 miles or so of sea from France

Posted Image

Worryingly expensively-customised Tranner ambylance, the person who imported it from England says it has a 3 litre V6 running on LPG

2nd one down is a dealer edition of which there were millions on the island by 1989. 3rd one sadly a t-bone victim in the breakers yard. 4th from bottom the twin of the one spotted earlier in the week. Grey-blue modified one is apparently a 2 litre Zetec from Mundaneo

Tis all for today but there IS more ready to come!!

Very absorbing stuff. The Festiva thing is a left hooker so god only knows which country that came from, I had always thought they ended up in Europe as Mazdas and nothing else. The Sapparo has an interesting grill too, I cannot recall whether I seen cars in the UK with those.

The Datsun 280C Cedric is a find and a half. Odd thing about that is lack of rear wipers. Care to figure this one out Nigel?

I saw that Dodge van at Stoneleigh classic and sports car show a few years ago.....

Posted Image

with this...

Posted Image

Which as sir nick sez, is a Fiat 131.

Liking that white renner 5 too. Top work!

The Festiva is the US-market version of the Kia Pride/Mazda 121, fook knows why it ended up on Jersey. More perplexing than that US-spec Escort found in another spottings topic. :?

Difficult to know where to look! The Cedric estate is a 260C (330), my UK brochure shows they didn't get rear wipers, or any form of adornment on the massive chrome bumpers. Saloons and the later 280C estate (also 330, different grille) variously got overriders and/or bits of rubber on the corners.

Top detective skills on that fiat rallycar, it was indeed j51131, if you look in the background you will see a silver car that also appears behind the dodge van. :)

Jersey used to have some "Anglo American" auctions late 80s-early 90s, which accounts for some of the more bizarre stuff on the roads, used to be a lot of cast-off vehicles used for type approval purposes apparently. Something to do with the Jersey SVA test being easier to pass than the UK equivalent.

Don't remember any CF2 ice cream vans on Jersey, they were all very early mark 1 examples far as I can tell!

Here's another big batch from last week - less "shite" in many ways but still shitey...

Posted Image

made reference before to the Portuguese community's idea of "styling"... this sad 190D emphasises the point

Posted Image

Nice 924.

Posted Image

Just right near my parents' house - I recognise the 2500S but the other car is a bit old for me - someone enlighten please?

Posted Image

GTA! Smert. Sunny saloon creeping into the picture too

Posted Image

More from the scrapyard

Posted Image

Side view of the same pile, what a waste of reusable parts.

Posted Image

Nissan van surely too new to be "end-of-life" already.

Posted Image

If Jersey people throw stuff like this away it makes you wonder how there's so much older stuff still on the road.

Posted Image

Lots of hours of sunshine over here, which has flattened the paint of this tiddly 'Zuki considerably

Posted Image

and indeed this newish Charade - that's not just sunlight reflecting off the bonnet - it really has become practically white

Posted Image

Borderline classic?

Posted Image

Wonder if this will appear on J plates shortly.

Posted Image

Just what were Skoda thinking when they came up with these

Posted Image

This coach may be nearly new, but trust me they are shite - apparently they are pretty much a clone of the Leyland Swift which itself was heavily based on the mid 1980s Roadrunner truck. Bodywork built in Leicester!!

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Mini based tat

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Escort mk4 corner - still bloody loads everywhere I look. Pair of Ghias, first one in that colour, second an automatic next to the uniquely Jersey parking sign, then two special edition cabrios which are nice because if they were UK cars they'd no doubt have been modified to pieces by now.

Posted Image

Badges say GT6, can anybody tell me more?

Posted Image

Sporty looking Ibiza; sadly missed a nice mk1 System Porsche example

More tape needed on this dog eared Jug XJ40
